I also understand what you mean. Because (most people) when they go to the shop to buy bread and milk, usually come out with about R200-R300 worth of goods. We only buy food once a month. And I usually make sure there's enough of everything.

We buy 20litres of milk (sachets, or 2 litres, whichever works out cheaper) and about 8 loaves of bread. It all gets chucked in the freezer.

Fruit and veggies I buy at housewife's market, they are cheaper with certain things than fruit and veg (bananas usually about R2/kg, mushrooms often at R5 a punnet). Pumpkin I buy at fruit and veg every 3 months. Then I take 1 of all the big pumpkins they have, plus a big carry bag of butternuts. I get them to peel and chop it. Saves me a lot of time and hassle, plus they do ti free anyways.

Most of my veggies get processed soon after we buy it and also chucked in freezer...

Yeh i guess ur right... and u also have to find the right places that save you the most money :)
