New MMO

Hey guys, I was hoping for some help in deciding/finding a new MMO, it doesn't necessarily have to be a RPG...

My biggest issues right now with deciding on online games is if it's responsive/reliable to play on a connection from SA, which is why just Googling it doesn't really help.

I'm really into PvP, but if it's a fun reasonably polished MMO, I'll play it regardless.

What I've tried:

WoW - Since early WotlK days, recently got over it, requiring about 20-30 hours a week to keep up with Raid Finder, Dailies, Arenas, RBGs.... Horribly unbalanced PvP too :( I still love it but I've decided to find something else that doesn't demand that much time just to 'keep up' with the game.... Did I mention the unbalanced PvP?

GW2 - Simply lost interest quickly (< level 35), zero gear progression for PvP and for some reason I just lost the drive to play despite following the game intently for 3 years prior to release, I guess you could say it felt like too 'casual' an MMO

Planetside 2 - REALLY fun, but constantly due die to lag spikes, not to mention the fact that it RAPES my PC on low setting in big battles

LotrO - Non-existant PvP, combat felt very unresponsive (it seemed like it was designed that way rather than it being due to latency alone) which ultimately caused me to give up (I would've stomached no PvP simply 'cause its Lord of the Rings)

Aion - Felt more grindy than leveling a Paladin pre-Cataclysm and lost interest early

Basically: I don't mind F2P/Subscriptions, I'm just looking for a fun MMO that I can play comfortably with SA latency, from GW2 I guess I could say an end game would probably be a must (if I have to level). I'm thinking of returning to LotrO, just at the time it felt unpolished and delayed (about mid- 2011 i think).

It's a lengthy post, but I'd really appreciate some help :D

Go die in Darkfall unholy wars: Full loot, pvp... no mercy.

Do some research on EVE online. Been comtemplating to start playing it myself. The latency is fine.

Also I don't know why you say pvp in lotro is non-existent? You have the moors, but RKs and Burglars pretty much run the show there.

@Lyt I was having a look at a few videos, but it seemed a little less engaging.... That was until I saw GlacieredPyro's video :D Those fights looked pretty epic, I think I'll download the client and give it a shot tonight.... I'm on 3G so it's gonna cost a bit =/

@Wyzak I have the base game from a Steam sale, so I just might... Do you play it?

Have a look at Rift.

Yup i would suggest definitely give Rift a try. Was a nice refreshing change on things but also no huge learning curve as it is very similar to wow in many aspects. When i played it there was a huge pvp following and levels where normalised in battlegrounds. Things might have changed however since then.

Rift looks soooooo good :) I just cannot do another subscription game atm. Wish I had the time to play MMO's again :(

I'll check out EVE and Rift then, but so far nobody's mentioned anything about playing these games from SA? What's the latency like? Can you play PvP competitively?

@Blind Faith : I had a look at some user review online, so far the reports are that the game appears to have a lot of its content still in development (missing) and that it crashes a lot, so I'll wait a few months for things to smooth out... But at that point Elder Scrolls Online will hopefully be released :D

Well our experience might not be the same for you with latency? With a 4mb Mweb business account we had about 200ms in game so it was fine.

I recently started playing EVE, lots of fun and really relaxed if you want it to be but the active PvP is also exciting.
Here is a link for a 21-day trial, a week longer than the normal trial time:
Eve 21-day Trial

Be ready to start learning the complexity of this game.

Eve is amazing. Everything has a real sense of value, you will cry when your prized ships goes down in flames. I think its a fundamental problem to current MMOs is that stuff doesn't get destroyed over time. Eve you can lose everything you built up through years of playing, in a matter of minutes if you aren't careful.

Yeah, I love Rift. I've almost got 5 characters on lvl 50 (the top level before the expansion).

I recently got the expansion and 30 days game time for free from Raptr, so will probably start playing it again now :) http://raptr.com/rewards/rift-storm-legion

I can't recall ever having latency issues in Rift. It plays really smoothly on my ADSL.

Cool, I'll start trials for both as soon as I have the clients downloaded :) Thanks everyone :D

I'll post my game name here if anyone's keen to teach/team up once I've learnt the ropes

All the rift shard pop's are on low, there's only 1 PvP realm (low), and one english realm on medium pop (PvE - Icewatch), I'm checking this in the morning, so maybe it's only displaying the number of players online? What realm are you guys on?

We are playing on IceWatch (PvE) - EU :)
