Isn't diesel cheaper to run but more costly to maintain?

The newer diesel vehicles with the lower Sulphur Fuel has the same service intervals as a petrol so at the moment it makes sense to drive Diesel. They are also far light on fuel than its petrol variant.

O Yes and Morning all

That is what I thought.
it's a common misperception. remember most of a diesels service is an oil change and a checkup.

My car has an oil change every 10k and a service every 20k. and the last service was basically just an oilchange, cost me R875

the main thing to keep in mind is if oyur car/bakkie is out of warranty and/or/ service plan, rather not take it to a dealer, they charge you about 5 time more than is needed

Problem is it isn't either of those brands we looking at. Mainly looking at the Hyundai's, Opels, Kia etc which don't have many viable diesel options.
well... kia does have this http://www.kia.co.za/vehicles/optima :D

and Hyundai has a diesel version of the Getz that I've heard good things about

Morning women, men and modern monkeys.

As far as diesel are concerned, I think they said on Top Gear once that diesels are for people so concerned with the environment that they want to cover it in a thin, protective, oil layer.

I had one of those exploding Corsas (hatch, not sedan) and it was ok. Had a recall where I had to return it to the dealer (can't remember for what) and everything was ok with it further.

Hai hai Mr Stark . . .

Yea it is actually very awesome, sometimes you dont really think about it, but consider this, the firm I am at (aka dad's office) has changed the face of Cape Town in many ways. He was the head architect involved with Cape Royale (hotel across from the new cape town stadium), he did Cape Point - head architect there, then there are the malls, flats, office complexes, warehouses that he was also involved with.

We also found original plans for those old PERM banks, some of them dated 1905 - we cant open them tho since they are extremely fragile.

Mister 44 - for now they are being sealed and stored in a safe place, we had to throw out loads of the drawings where they did alterations to the building in 1948, since most of those where illegible, we only kept the ones that still looked decent. These where discovered in a pile of old archives - we didnt even know it was there!

Reminds me of a story one of the guys in the office told me. About 15 years ago he was working contract for a company that had to archive an computerize birth and death certificates for dept of home affairs. So somebody loaded a pile a birth certificates from 1820's into the high speed scanner. The scanner didn't shred the documents, it turned it to dust. The entire room looked like somebody hit reverse on an industrial vacuum cleaner. This incident was never reported or made public.
