Battlefield 4 has no mod support

Big surprise. EA has been fucking players over with a lack of mod support for a while now. It's funny that they're recycling the same bullshit excuse again this time around, though.

A lack of mod support means they have direct control over the content in the game which means they more or less have direct control over the lifespan of the game. Hope you're all gearing up for BF5 in in 2015 which, surprise surprise, won't have mod support either. Pre-order now to get early access to the beta so you can see which bugs you'll be experiencing at launch.

That's odd. I remember this happening before... with that other game that's kind of like Battlefield but isn't. And I didn't care for that one either.

Didn't know there were mods for Bf2.
Even still - a mod like that won't keep me playing for too long. Much rather be playing BC 2.

But mods extended BF2's lifetime. Having no mods means EA basically has complete control over the lifetime of the game. When you're pushing out a new BF game every two years, I'm sure you can understand why that would be important to them.

What I understand from what you're saying is:

Mod prolong a game's life, whereby not having a dev having to create a new release every 2 years? Giving the community what control they can have over the game(s).

No, what I'm saying is that for a game like BF3 not having mod support essentially means EA determines when the game dies. Once BF4 hits, what reason will people have to keep playing BF3? Mods would give people a reason to stick to playing BF3, but seeing as there are no mods everyone will just have to upgrade to BF4 because everyone else is doing it and there is no reason to continue playing BF3.

Ah yes. Now I understand.
Once a new release comes, the older one/predecessor essentially dies, unless someone creates a mod whereby keeping it alive that much longer, keeping people playing it that much longer.

As far as I know, the Call of Duty franchise doesn't suffer from this. Black Ops II was released some few months ago, but people are still playing Black Ops and even Modern Warfare. Not that there's a whole lot of difference between predecessor and successor.

Well Modern warfare has mod support. That's why its still being played today. Without it there wouldn't be a Modern warfare scene. Hell promod is still being played at DGL. The wage servers are being used daily and most of the time its full.

And I think all the hardcore Call of duty fans have moved on to Bo2. The only one's still playing Bo are the guys that recently got it.
