If anything I anticipate the problem getting worse on Tuesday, a crapload more people will be trying to log in once they pick up their boxed copy.
I'm hoping that if I pick mine up as soon as AWX open and install it I might be able to sneak onto Moogle before them Europeans get back from work or school.

Weirdness, status page says all the servers are down for maintenance, SE page says maintenance ended at 2am, in game you can access all the servers, moogle still locked.
I am so hating this game right now, why did you guys have to choose the only server that is perma locked, dammit.
I tried at 2am after maintenance, 3 am and again at 4am, all locked. There is NO WAY that there are people playing at that time still enough to keep it locked. I think (and from reading posts about it) that the game was so full of people that they just left the lock on and will be leaving the lock on for a long time.
I will just stop thinking that I will be playing this game anytime soon, that will help my frustration. Back to bed.

Basically, if you want to play with your friends, screw you, go play somewhere else, we are not going to give you a server transfer option, we don't care.

Geez ... these guys are seriously going to take some flak as so many people are complaining about not being able to play with friends ... All can say is, have your client open just before the allotted time because http://arrstatus.com/ and the servers often become available just before they're due to. Let's hope this maintenance sorts some-frakkin-thing out regarding character creation! Ai ... Square Enix ...
Sorry man, but some of us were playing since CBT1 and that's where our characters were. :/ I had no idea that there'd be issues like this.

Just to outline why I am stressing so much about server choice. I have played a lot of MMOs and in every single one there comes a time where guild/community makes a big difference. In many MMOs I have played I have gotten to the 2-3 month mark and seriously started looking for a guild to experience more content with and in almost every case, guild shopping has been a total fiasco.
Our timezone is problematic in that people start playing in the EU at our time 9pm about and finish at about 1am, our time. This does not work for me at all as I am either forced to stay up late or try and find a swedish/belgian guild that plays at our timezone.
Apart from the very very important friendships with real people I like to continue in online games, a South African guild is so very important in an MMO, for me at least, because of the time issues. This is why I am hanging on, through thick and thin and much personal nerd rage to get on this server.
See you there sometime.

I'm still wondering how many characters you can create?
Another thing,running lvl10 pugilist quests (most people have the same gear there) and there are some armors that are definitely for females (amazon style armor) and you see male characters running around with them.I think i literally burst out laughing.

when creating 1 it says 1/8, so I guess 8. Moogle off at start so I am guessing its permanently locked. No character transfer at all, if they gave free transfers OFF moogle, it would help as people can move to other servers to form guilds.

Is it true that an arcanist cannot queue up as a healer in the early levels? There is no option to queue up as a healer till much later?

I completely understand. My only hope is that they WILL create new servers before Tuesday, leaving Moogle free for character creation. I'm 100% with you on the subject of communities. Another personal issue I have with Pugs or Random EU guilds is that (excuse the arrogance, but I'm speaking from experience) they are more often than not "more challenging to work with" in end-game raids. From what I have read on Twitter they are working on the whole "lock down" thing (they bloody well should be).

I'm so with you there dude. My MMO experience is relatively fresh, haven't been playing the genre long at all but community is really important. I was absolutely thrilled that there were a decent amount of locals willing to invest time into this game, this is the first MMO I've really wanted to make a go of and stay hooked for a year+.

A little tip,join all guilds that are not military ones once you reach the required lvl to join additional guilds.
The materials you need for none-military guilds can be found pretty much anywhere,just make sure you get the starting tool from the guildmaster.

Yea Shrike, I feel the same way, I have a gut feeling they will only unlock it on Tuesday again for the new people. If I where you (Plus I am doing it myself) I would spam them for the early access time back since you couldnt play with the people you wanted to.

I don't think they will open it at launch to be honest, the number influx will be even greater. If nothing happens between today and tomorrow, I am rolling on Odin or somewhere, I cannot wait all week to play a game that has been paid for and when I don't know when I can get in on Moogle.
I would rather play something and then consider server transfer later, when the cost is known. I know I have said a lot about community but there is a point at which I must decide to play or not, a balance point between playing at all and holding out for a community and I am fast approaching that balance point.
Since this is a subs based game, I am wasting money every day.
