The little bit I've played so far was pretty damn good, and I suppose if you want to follow the story it's quite important.

I played 1 and 2, don't have 3 though.

2 was very cool, and worth it if you a) enjoyed the first one, b) want to follow the story, and c) (if you haven't played the others yet) enjoy sci-fi horror type games

1. Got me into the series, but don't think its great by todays standards.
2. was great, much more refined controls a gameplay than 1. Also a bit more vaired enviroments.
3. I'm busying playing, has co-op, much like resident evil in that its drop in and drop out, works very well.

1. played about an hour or so, never enjoyed the off should 3rd person mechanic and clunky controls.
2. i gave a skip due to not enjoying the first one.
3. busy playing through but has taken a back seat due to GTA5, though I have started to enjoy it (only about 2hours in).

The controls were much less clunky in the second one

I recently finished my Dead Space saga thanx to Humble deal. and I must say it was all worth it.

I had 1 and 2 but played them so long ago that replay was in order. Also I did a whole saga properly and that included watching the movies in order as well.

Order I did it:
Dead Space Downfall (movie) Can skip
Dead Space (Game) Must play
Dead Space Aftermath (Movie) Entertaining
Dead Space (Android Game) Can skip but it explains the outbreak in 2
Dead Space 2 (Game) Must play
Dead Space 3 (Game) OK I guess, its more action than the other 2.

Is no 2 worth the play? Hell yes, Its not as scary as no 1 but still has its moments and controls is a hell of a lot better than the 1st one.

Edit: Forgot I also have the Dead Space Salvage graphic novel but that arrived after I played the games so will update if it is worth it or not.

you forgot dead space extraction on the wii

If you're looking for a game that has a horror element to it and a decent story - in a 3rd person perspective and many more, then this is the franchise you/one should consider.

Game gets better with more improvements and features from each predecessor.

Played 1; enjoyed it
Played 2; enjoyed it as well.
I'm yet to play 3.

DS2 is by far the best game in the franchise. Refined controls, great story, great locations and fantastic atmosphere. It's a little light on the horror but as a pure survivor game with horror elements it's a favourite of mine.

DS3 was a flop, I still enjoyed it but man it was a waste of cash. Only great thing about DS3 was the weapon customization.

I'm sad to say I haven't played DS1 :(

One was great
Two was excellent
Three there is a few things I don't like for example the zealots being made into terrorists, but I'll give it a spin. (of course there is the part of buy the game twice)

Comics was not too bad and even the Books are ok. OK I'm a fan... lol.

I feel your pain irt the series :D

I was a fan till I played 3. Cool action game, no more a horror

3 Kinda killed the story for me. (Dont wanna go into detail as it will contain spoilers)

Thinking about three must makes me..., sigh and I loved visceral a lot :(

Nonetheless I'll phew phew through three and get it out of my system.

Okay i caved , i Hope your all happy now enabling me and providing yet another blow to my already heavily abused credit card :D

Man all these sales lately and bundles and the holiday sales are just around the corner.

I finished DS3 yesterday and must say.. I quite enjoyed it..:) Not as many scares as the others but a lot of action

First game was pretty awesome...enough to keep you cursing! I have both the PC and PS3 version and both are pretty good.

The second game had more responsive controls and it looked pretty good too, just feeling smoother overall. Sadly, however, it lacked a certain bit of atmosphere that the first one included...something a little darker. Yet it was still a pretty great experience (ouch, my eye!).

As for the third one...well just too much action for my tastes (which isn't bad however I was just not expecting the heavy focus on action as opposed to that tension you felt with the previous two games). Would still love to try the co-op sometime though!
