@Blind Faith
Ok, where do i start...
Of course i know the Omni and the Oculus Rift. And it is undeniable a awesome combination to play any kind of game.
But there are also aspects that have to be considered.
First is the price.
The projected retail price for the Omni is 499 US-Dollar.
And the price of the Oculus Rift Development Kit is 300 US-Dollar. I don't know how much the consumer version will be but i guess maybe +/- 50 US-Dollar.
So you have around 800 dollar for both.
On top of it, you will also need a guncontroller or another controller of your choice.
The Price of the ATOC Gaming Gun will be between 200 and 250 EUR. That is about 270-340 US-Dollar.
The more funding we get, the cheaper we can make the ATOC, so maybe our price will be going down in the future.
Second is the compatibility.
Most games are not VR-Ready. That means you have to adapt the games that you can play them with the Rift.
With the ATOC you can play every First Person Shooter Game, infact you can play every game with a mouse input like MMORPG's or Racing but it's not really meant for that. You just plug it in, install the driver and play.
Third and most important is the gameplay itself.
Theres a big difference between Omni-Rift combo and the ATOC.
With the Rift you don't aim with the gun. You aim with your head. The motion sensors in the headset are computing the mouse position.
So even if you want to play realistic and try to have the weapon at the ready all the time and in all positions you look, you will find yourself turning your head in one position and holding the gun at a different one. (I hope you know what i mean)
With the ATOC you have to ready the gun all the time because the sensors in the gun compute the mouse postion.
You aim with the gun in the direction where you want to go or shoot at your targets. If the target is behind you, turn around. You want to climb the ladder up? Look up and move.
It is unquestionable that the Omni-Rift combo is far more advanced then the ATOC and is also the most immersive setup for any kind of games. And the rift will be of course the most realistic setup for Plane, Heli or Racing simulation games.
But it is not the most realistic setup for First Person Shooter Games. In real life you dont aim with your head... You have to aim your gun on the target and shoot. Thats the reason why i made that statement with the most realistic gameplay experience for First Person Shooters.
And btw, the ATOC Gaming Gun can also be used with the Omni.
Sorry for my bad english, it is very late in germany... but i just had to reply before i go sleep.
