Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

There are 2 Data centers 1 in Montreal and 1 in Tokyo, after switching to Afrihost from mweb it really helped a great deal with the cast times. Toryn was playing around with WTFast on the weekend and it did not seem to make that much of a difference.

Let me know how it goes, ill gladly try anything to avoid getting one shotted by those fekking cactus things again.

Thing I dont like about things like WTFfast and battleping etc is you have to log into a service to use it.... hoping the leatrix fix will make a difference...because the fix is on the local machine its more effective. I battleping servers etc are down you are screwed...

besides the security analyst in me screams "session hijacking" when using something like that....good way to get your account hacked :)

Im paranoid about stuff like that! :D So lets hope leatrix works.....I dont actually really have a latency issue, this experiment is more for the peeps that do....if it improve mine just a little it be awsome!

So gonna log in, do a netstat - and check pings, then install leatrix and repeat exercise to see if there is a difference. If I read the notes on leatrix correctly I may not actually see much of a difference in straight pings, but should see improvement in game due to increases frequency of SynAck packets.

My pings on Openweb have been stellar, haven't been experiencing the same issues that some others had.

Yeah im on axxess and had no issues either...those that I did have were sporadic and not serious.

Well since rehab told me to make my game a high priority and I have turned my settings to low for the titan fight I do better. I just have had bad luck with some plumes and weird rubber banding (I have a suspicion it is more someone abusing youtube again at home)

The thing is not latency issues, it's that the baseline is very high due to the server location.
WoW eu I would hit ~120ms. With canadian servers im sure its around at least ~500.
What that means is that orb walking (animation cancelling) is an effective dps/hps boost for casters. *Note to self make macros for this*

Also with leatrix you will not notice a difference in ping. To put into simple terms what it does:

Before Leatrix Latency Fix is installed:
Server: "Ok computer, I just sent a data packet over to you, got it?"
Your computer: ...
Server: "Come on, answer me! I don't have all day! Stop wasting time!"
Your computer: ...
Server: "Ok, forget it, I've waited long enough, sending another one over! Got it?"
Your computer: "Yep, got that one, also got the one you sent before, thanks."
Server: "Well, why didn't you acknowledge the first one when I sent it? I was waiting ages!"
Your computer: "Sorry, I'm just trying to make the network more efficient by bundling the acknowledgements together in pairs. This is how I'm setup by default."

After Leatrix Latency Fix is installed:
Server: "Ok computer, I just sent a data packet over, got it?"
Your computer: "Yep, send the next!"
Server: "That was fast! Ok, here's another, got that?"
Your computer: "Yep, send the next!"
Server: "Wow! What an improvement! Now that's more like it!"
Your computer: "Yep, it's certainly keeping me on my toes, thanks!"

Thanks bud...I know this, was simplifying for other non-techie peeps :P Im also in I.T :D Also why I said I prolly wont see change in pings, would have to test in actual game ;) (Please ignore this if explanation was not for me! :D )

Nice explanation tho....I didn't have the time to type all that out ;) and could not have done it better myself....you by any chance have to explain stuff often to technologically challenged people?? It creates this kind of imaginative explanations....(daily thing for me too :( )

Currently my ping to FFX servers is around 220 last i checked, I alt tabbed out while game was open, used netstat -a and pinged the FFX servers. I just wanna test before and after for sake of being thorough (Im pedantic that way :P ) If this helps in any way it would be an improvement for peeps battling, as there are a number that dont have the liberty to change their ISP or have access to router, so trying for an alternative to provide some relief at least. So here is to hoping...
Also certain ISP's are definitely affecting game play...Mweb being one currently. Their normal packages are giving terrible latency, but premium accounts seem to be fine (Probably due to no shaping on premium accounts )

PS: By animation cancelling you mean switching off animations all together? This is a new term for me :d was never a WoW junkie... ;)

Where can I get the server IP's? Ya know.. for science..

there ya go thanks Isen,

I have noticed I sometimes get a slightly different IP when alt tabbed out, but they from same range. This may be my oldzeimers, but I could have sworn my IP's where 179 Ip range last time I checked....damn now Im gonna have to check lol...gonna bug me.

yeah thats about right.....I check i get 280ms on my home pc not 220....its sux but is playable on MMO normally.

Eish 250 on fibe is kak....would have thought would be closer to 180 - 200 on fibre at least. What line you testing on?

I guess if the fibre went one way across the ocean the ping would be lower, but there are so many bottlenecks that I'm not surprised it's not much better.

My ping is also about 280. Could have been 100 less if the server was in Europe...

Office network. (Neotell)
Will post result from home aswell.

Im gonna double check my results, as I tested that last while still on Mweb account, so will be interesting to see.

@ Isen - yeah dude I hear ya. The supposedly recently finished a brand spanking new data centre in durbs, but dont think its commisioned as yet...that will help reduce latency as it will cut our a few hops... *Holds Thumbs*
