Telkom ADSL speed upgrade details

I can get up to 10 Mbps. I am on 2 Mbps with mweb, so my line is getting bumped up to 4mbps but I will still get 2 Mbps with mweb hopefully for cheaper.

This raises so many dilemmas for me do i move to telkom do i stay with openweb, do i move back to mweb with an all incl package or try telkom's complete package.

Anyone on here that has telkom uncapped with a usage of more than 190Gb a month if so please tell me if you get throttled and to what extent. and at what amount of usage do they start throttling you.

I would advice anybody who is thinking of moving to first wait a month or so and just see how things develop.

I totally agree there. There's probably going to be cost implications in the short to medium run, and best wait to see if/how that happens.

Been on Telkom Uncapped now for a fair few months with a usage average of about 150-200 gig per month. So far I had one month where I thought I was shaped into uselessness, but it turned out to be contention issues on the exchange. I've found that Telkom is quite lenient when it comes to their fair-use policy. Sure, I do see some speed drops towards the end of the month, but nothing that's makes me foam at the mouth. I do have to say that I am connecting to one of the VDSL exchanges, so I may be getting better service than the norm

My internet dropped completely at about midnight, and didn't come back on until this morning. Dialed into my router, and it's now synced at 6Mbps (I have a 4Mbps line). Ran a speedtest, and it runs at just over 4Mbps. Not exactly the 10Mbps I was told, but hopefully it'll be upgraded even further later.

So far so good!

This is pretty much what most people using Telkom Internet have to say at this stage. If this situation remains, all their customers will be happy. However, the reason I advised people to first wait is because of this:

Telkom Internet said that price increases on some products are unavoidable as it needs to fund the increased capacity – IPC, local and International – required to continue the same quality of services on the higher speeds.

The ISP is also making changes to the way uncapped accounts are managed – in a “manner that allows it to remain profitable without sacrificing the customer experience”.

That emboldened part is reason to be cautious, imho.

This I did not know. I will have to keep a close eye on them then.

It's always risky to move ISP in the middle of upgrades like this. I remember with the last upgrade I had terrible speeds until they sorted the exchange syncing issues. Almost immediately after that they upgrade the exchange to VDSL and that cause a bit more frustration. But once everything was up and running again, my internet experience with them has never been better. So yes, your advise is sound; let the ISP's play their cards and see where everything stands in a few months from now. Once the dust has settled it should be pretty clear whether any ought to move or not.

Ye I would wait for January before deciding on anything should give the ISP's enough time to sort themselves out.

How does one cancel mweb? I am more asking to where i must i email my cancellation request?

I'm jumping ship too.. The throttling is just rediculous, and I just wanted to download Batman Arkham Origins :(

According to afrihost, the best way is to MIGRATE your line back to Telkom, then MIGRATE to your new ISP, if you've got your line with them too. I sent a mail to [email protected] this morning, I'll let you know if I hear anything back.

Please do. I have email [email protected] and [email protected] and [email protected] and non responded. but my line is with telkom just the data part is with mweb.

So I checked again now and I'm still not upgraded yet. Line is extremely slow I must say, which may be indicative of them working on the exchange (fingers crossed!!)

Saw lots of techies down the road from my house but none are working on my box to upgrade it yet they working on the boxes nearby :(.

Just got an email back saying I should mail [email protected] or phone 021 5968480, but this was for the line. If I were you I'd mail these guys and [email protected]. I'll let you know if I find out more, since I'm seriously considering signing up for data only at afrihost while I wait for my mweb cancellation period to pass.

If you wanna cancel mweb just phone in and ask for a cancellation form send it in as soon as you filled it out. then wait one more month then your done with them i was with mweb and they are currently the worst isp in SA and the most expensive

I'm with openweb now and realy happy just trying to find out if they do lines too because afrihost is useless.

Maybe i should just move my line back to telkom
