Health Nuts

Like my colleague mentioned to me earlier: "2014, the year of the Six-Pack".

Hell yeah, this is definitely the year of the six pack for me. A six pack of Castle a day keeps the doctor away. And that there kids, is my health tip :D.

For added health, store your beer upstairs like Murph said!

On a serious note though, I went to the doctor last year for heart palpitations. I went for an ECG and a heart scan before of my family history with strokes and heart attacks.

My doctor advised me to stop smoking, which is kinda obvious because smoking is probably the worst thing you can do to yourself. So this year I'm planning to get back into my mountain biking routine and quitting smoking. I've already made a habit of drinking lots of water every day. It takes some getting used to, but once you get used to it, it's not all that bad. :D

I started the healthy lifestyle last year... Got into the gym and started trying to eat healthy etc...

Anyone interested in the Warrior Races? I did the last 2 Black ops last year... Its between 16 and 21km with about 30 - 35 opsticals... And lots of mud... But actually a hell of a lot of fun!

I think I should get one of those Gym Balls for my girlfriend. She has also been complaining about lower back pain for a few months now, basically when I gently press near or into the grooves of her spine, she feels it. Could it be the "Pinched sciatica nerve" you mentioned or something similar?

As for eating, I am what they call a Gimba :D There are times I eat so much I can hardly move. And I'm trying to cut away from this.

Like my colleague mentioned to me earlier: "2014, the year of the Six-Pack".

Just dont make the same mistake I did and get a to big a ball - makes it bloody hard to balance on it. But it really does help even just by lying on my back on it, stretching the nerves and joints in my back. Sciatica you will know if its that if the right or left leg (depends on which nerve is being pinched) starts to loose feeling. I lost a lot of feeling in my leg but forunately we discovered the problem after I couldnt walk after an accident when my dog pulled out my back and managed to move the bones more onto the nerve. I also have almost no more disks in between my spinal column, but its not bad enough yet to warrant surgery which I am trying to avoid by doing the exercises my physio set up for me. She was the one who suggested the gymball and doing either yoga or pilates.

I found pilates works but not as much as the ball does and you do a fair few of the same exercises with the ball that is similar to pilates.

One does not simply quit cola.

I went cold Turkey on all sodas, was tough but worth it.

3 weeks. The first is the worst. If you can go three, you've quit.

Another thing I need to get back on is my breakfast: Muesli + Fruit + Yoghurt Combo.

I had this like every morning for a few months. It really kept me feeling good and healthy.

Apparently it takes 21 days to break a habit... So anything you want to try cut out or quit (like smoking) you should aim for 21 days...

Typical day for now consists of -

Wake up and have a glass of Herbex juice .... gets the energy going
A while later, have a smoothie - plain yoghurt, strawberries, honey, bit of raw oats ..... that will keep you filled up until lunch time
Hit the punchbag for 20-30, power walk the yard with weights for 10-15, shoot some hoops to cooldown, hit the pool (weather permitting)
Boiled eggs, cheese, wholegrain cracker bread, viennas, etc for lunch
Chill out, play some games
Mini version of the workout from earlier late afternoon
Low carb dinner

I've also cut out the drinking whenever I felt like it. Now I'll have 1 beer on the weekend. Seems to be working well for me and as I get fitter, I'll add more activities/lengthen the current activities and wanna start going for walks soon. Also want to get a few more things like a good gym mat and such. Best thing is to feel good about what you're doing, otherwise you have a tendency to fall back into old ways.

I follow the royal marine fitness tool.

Pull ups 3 sets of 12(not much but I hang and then pull then hang as the marines do it which is incredibly hard)
3 sets of 30 push ups( it is increasing daily)
3 sets of 100 sit ups( can go on all day doing these)
5km run in 30 minutes need to get it down to 20 but I run uphill most of the way
dolphine dives or whatever they call them
lots of leg exercises

I don't eat fast food and barely drink fizzy drinks.

I have gained a lot of weight and its mainly muscle(I needed to gain weight). This program is doing me wonders. No weights or gym needed.
I don't drink at all.

How do you live!!!!!1

Rofl, hey sacrifices have to be made for the greater good :p

hehe good for you dude, keep it up. Dont make it one of those (kitty) resolutions / life changes for an arb reason.

i look forward to my texan steak and boerie while you eat braai corn and veggies!

:P

I stopped drinking coke a few years ago. I do drink quite a bit of water I think. 6 x 330ml glasses.
I run nearly every day. Monday to thursday and saturday. Roughly 6km and 10km.
Also started squats and pushups. 8 reps x 6 sets at the moment. Aiming for 10 sets.
Also trying to eat less. No more 1kg Eisbein for me. The doctor did say I had a high blood pressure when I went to a mine last year so I've got to watch that.

I'm also starting to get back in shape, gonna try start a 5k run this evening but I'm doubtful. I've started training my core and I'm making some progress there. It all sucks, I have to where business clothes this year so I can't hide behind baggy stuff any more.

Still if I can pass one tip onto you guys, go to dischem and pick up some slow mag fizzies.

Are they as effective as actual Mg tablets though?

I've finally joined the gym again because I've been feeling old and creaky.

The machine there that does your measurements told me about my weight something like a little extra padding doesn't hurt, use it or lose it, it's up to you. My BP and heart rate are awesome so I've got that going for me, but my body fat percentage is apparently quite high, which would account for my high cholesterol as well I guess. At least it came down from 24.9% to 23.7% in the last month.

Anyway, I'm attempting to get to gym at least 3 times a week, although finding time for anything these days is really hard, and I'll probably have to stop eating so much steak and chips and bacon and stuff like that. *sigh*

I'm hoping you use Flora butter?

The men in my family have a history of Heart Attacks. Any little thing I can do to keep cholesterol low or complete away I will do.

Which is why I use Flora for everything.

I'd even just take a few slices of bread and just put Flora on it. For some reason I find it quite tasty too.

I usually get Flora, but my wife likes to get Rama. So some good and some bad.

Considering that my dad had a quadruple bypass a few months ago, getting that cholesterol down is a must.
