Thread of PC Woes, Troubles, Problems, and Issues

i think my laptop has started aging or something i've had it for 3 years but for some reasons it has gone completely slow. anything i do it takes forever even though it's a simple task. i tried formatting it and reinstalling the drivers, i even emptied everything from it and stored it to my external hd. some games play fine and some just glitch all the way i end up closing the game. what i don't understand is that its a high end laptop but its behaving like an i3 maybe even worse. i'm not sure if its because of the windows updates, or my graphics card.
don't really know much about computers but here are my specs:
hp pavilion dv7
windows 7 home premium
Intel core i7 2.8GHz
8gb RAM
directX11
AMD Radeon HD 5 series

The hard drive sight be close to retiring.
You can use setaools (seagate hard drive health software) to test your hdd: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/202435en

If hdd is healthy, your cpu might be throttling itself from overheating... summer = bad for laptops.
Solution: get a laptop stand with fans. Or just elevate the laptop to see if that helps.

So last night we had a power trip.

I turn everything back on and my pc won't start. My monitors and pc screen which are all connected to the same multiplug work.

So I unplugged everything from my psu and plugged it back in. No success.
I switched power cables. No success.

I can't try a different psu though. I guess it's safe to say my psu has died. It can't be the motherboard or the CPU cos then my LEDs and my fans would still switch on as they connect directly to my psu.

Time to fork out more money :/

This is gonna sound very stupid / have you tried switching the multiplug? Could be that the plug went

Yeah I tried a different multiplug and wall socket. Still no success. Placed an order for the Corsair RM850 which arrives tomorrow. There goes my Christmas money.

Time to add my problem that's been here for 4 months.
Bought 4th gen I7 3770 with a Asus Maximus 5 board running Kingston Beast Ram.
So when i put it all together it ran for 2 months then started giving Post issues.

Tried the second bios didnt work.
Tried different RAM didnt work. (i.e. 3 different brands and speeds and sizes.
Tried resetting CMOS didnt work.

Everything I know from a normal troubleshooting guide didnt work. motherboard stays on A9 - USB initialize during post.(take note, even if i have USB devices plugged in or Dont have plugged in still the same results).

Sent the board back, they say its 100% fine. I am so lost, the supplier i.e. Frontosa wont assist me with sorting it out as they don't deal with customers.

Funny part is that they don't get that the shop i bought it from doesn't keep stock and rely on these suppliers to assist, but they just don't give a dam.I am left with trying to swap out the CPU , if it still wont work then only will they swap out the mobo. God so frustrated.

Think that is 3rd gen (socket 1155, correct me if I'm wrong). Anyways, I'm a reseller myself, and any issues that do come up, I need to take the part to (let's say) Frontosa for testing. I don't request my customers to do that. So can't the shop help you with that? Otherwise, maybe try Asus themselves? If it was distributed in SA from legitimate channels, then Asus is normally quite good and fast at helping with RMA issues.

Ducknuckle are you sure this is not some kind of safety feature that your computer has in the event of a power surge?

Otherwise you are most likely right about the PSU.

Always unplug when there is no power :P

Safety feature that stops your computer from turning on ever again?

Lol forgot I posted here. It turned out that my PSU blew which caused the power to trip.

Purchased a Corsair RM850 and gonna RMA the GS800 and sell the replacement.

Happened to me too... a popping PSU trips the power....

One Morning when my parents were away this happened to me, with a cooler master psu, it didn't trip the power but did scare me, but I know why this happened because it was a sunday morning and I slept so well, I forgot to go to church, so out of scareness I went the afternoon.

My problem with my pc at this moment is avast that uses my cpu so much like between 70-90%, don't know why, so the temp of my i5 -3570k is like 71 . Help please urgunt! :)

Simple, just uninstall avast.
As alternative, install comodo or MS security essentials

If your CPU gets to 71 (assuming degree Celsius) without full load, then you probably need a better cooler.
Disable any OC, even intel boost if you cannot afford a better cooler for the time being.

Agree with chan0o, go to Makro and buy AVG, tried, tested, the best! and may sound a bit silly but open a few windows, sometimes without knowing the stuffiness can cause these kind of problems.

This stearted only recently after a avast automatic update, ussually it runs without a load about 40 degree Celsius and when I play games about 50 degree Celsius.

Do you think it is my pc or their software including the update?
