Well you probably don't want to play the witcher 2 since you won't complete that game since its long and I hear 3 is going to be even longer.

When you say it's long, can you give me a sense of how long it is? Haven't played it.

FC2 was probably the longest I have played any game with missions from start to finish. I went diamond hunting and loved the open-world nature of it that allowed me to go off and do my own thing :)

24 Hours for main quest more or less and with extra's loads more time.
http://www.howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=10268 For any other games you where wondering on how long to finish them.

I find its very much a case of what you make of it. e.g. If you want to collect all the thingies that you need to find per level then it takes a long time. If you just rush through it to catch the story line then its faster.

Or take Skyrim...I sometimes just wander around a bit with no specific aim vs fast travel to an objective.

Lately I do tend to play games on Easy though...just to streamline things a bit & get through the games a bit faster (esp given the huge unplayed steam library).

I'm the opposite. I used to game mostly on easy, but these days I want to experience the game as the developers intended - so I play no normal.

i tend to think that games are to short these days where are they days that it took you 2 - 3 weeks to finish a game these days you can finish a game in mere hours if you really put effort into it. Sure we do have the odd game that's still long like Hitman Absolution and Darksiders 2, Splintercell.

But then good titles like battlefield i finished it in 2 days and i was so disappointed by the ending too. i would have loved to play a bit more after that and have a better ending 3 even for each of the characters.

But these days it lets make money and not good quantity games

Yeah I think I would definitely disagree and say games seem to be getting shorter and shorter. 6-8 hours for a R600 game is money not well spent in my opinion. It's refreshing to get games like Last of Us and Tomb Raider that last a good 10+ hour on your first play-through. The only lengthy games you get these days are RPG's and open-world games like GTA. I do understand though that it is due to the fact that games take a lot longer to develop these days.

Short games are really a put off for me. It's the reason why I have slowly been much more attracted to multiplayer these days. I like seeing a really good game, and playing it for really long. I think it's a big waste to pay a lot of money for a game you will play through once. A good game(for me) is one that you can play over and over and not get bored. This is part of the reason I really dislike story based games. If I am interested in one, I'll probably only get it if its really cheap (Like maybe R70 or lower).

It's the reason I like RTS (mainly) and good RPG's

RTS's have so much replayability for me (online, skirmishes with the AI etc). I actually still play Battle for Middle Earth 2 ( with mods).
RPG's have great replayability which is why I love it.

So if a game is feeling too long, I just think it's not the game for you.

I don't think that games are too long. The longer the better value for money in my opinion. For instance I would have played games like Dragon Age forever if I could have. Yes some games do get get very boring but then you can just stop.

RPGs are definitely too long, when I look at games in my library that I haven't finished one in particular stands out:

Almost 150 hours and I still haven't finished it yet. Granted some of that time may have been leaving the game open to download DLC but that is still a lot of time for one game to take up.

Yet on the other side of the coin I look at a game like Tomb Raider which took me a third of the time to complete (would've been less if I didn't hunt down every relic and complete all the challenges) and I was still disappointed that there wasn't more to the game.

I notice one of the reasons why I stop playing long games is because it becomes difficult to keep track of the story when I haven't played in a while. Perhaps one solution to this problem could be to add an option in the main menu that recaps the story for you.

Thoughts?

It's as if you didn't read my post just before yours. I just mentioned that I will play Dragon Age forever and then you say that RPGs are too long and give Dragon Age as an example. :(

*edit*
Nevermind. I see you posted seconds after me. Hehe it's funny how we use the same game to show different views.
