I wouldn't say its shit, but it sure is questionable... To make a not so adequate comparison, if I die in a crazy battle in Far Cry 3 (that shit can hit the fan pretty fast if you screw up), that shit makes sense. Theoretically, the BI combat should be fun, you have Elizabeth's Tears (which are supposed to give you a tactical edge), Vigors, and a varied arsenal of weapons at your disposal, but the level design (while excellent out of combat) along with the nature of how enemies are presented to you, is- for lack of better term- "spammy".
The enemy AI is super random (especially the heavy hitters), the sheer volume of enemies is overwhelming, in death your respawn is just as random, so you can't really say "Hey, this what I did wrong, how about I take a different approach" because the game has decided a different approach for you, the gunplay is lackluster. The problem is, they've given you tools that are meant to give you a tactical foothold in each encounter, but as soon as a huge encounter begins, all tactics go out the window (especially because of the level design).
You get hit from all directions, and I mean all directions, turrets, heavy hitters, and all manner of other enemies, and at this point, you can no longer process anything in a tactical manner. I'm all for difficulty and a rush (why I love Far Cry 3), but Infinite's combat is chaos, and not the fun kind :/
