The Gaymer Thread

Been on the forums for a while and never found anything worth giving me 2c on, but now Ive found it. Thanks for creating it.

Now, Ive been out for a long long time but would like to come out as a gaymer. Only problem is Im a bit of a noob.

So any advise on best games to play on PS3 will be great. Love first person, open world, RPG, ect.

I read the french foreign legion has a no gay policy? Is that true? I heard they beat the crap out of you if they discover you gay. I don't know how old the material is from what I read but has it changed or was it never true? Just curious.

You will get a slandering and will most likely be cast out enough to just leave. This is true for almost all the tougher lines in the Military. It's a given though since a lot of blatant stereotypical views are cast in there. The Legion is more about cohesion than anything else - an "unmanly" thing as such would create a large gap between groups and thus won't be allowed.

I know the royal marines don't mind at all. There are a good few gay guys in there.

I am not gay myself :p I just wanted to know a bit more about the legion.

Happy first posting!

First person open-world RPG, you say? You just described Fallout (3/New Vegas) :) which also happens to be in my top 3 best games ever (#2, specifically).

Skyrim rocks that same vibe. You really need to play the Mass Effect trilogy though (#1), and give Deus Ex a bash, too (#3)

There will ALWAYS be a very obvious divide. It's sad but unfortunately true. If there were gay guys they hid it very well, there were some in the Army with me before hand. They were accepted freely but all dropped out after basic.

That is also true. oh well it is the military I suppose :p

Same here. Enjoying it and I can relate a lot to Patrick, but I do think it's a bit slow. The first season is only going to be 8 episodes and not a whole bunch has happened. Hopefully it gets a second season.

Only 8? Sheesh. They get fewer and fewer these days. Not much has happened, but I guess it's only of those series that just goes through the motions.

Welcome ChrisCrossd!

Yeah like I say despite the slow moving plot I am really enjoying it, so the short season doesn't bother me as long as there's at least more to look forward to in the next season. But I don't think the ratings have been that good so we'll have to see what happens.

Sorry for my utter ignorance I haven't read this whole thread but there's a difference between gay and Queen???

I don't completely understand why the Q is there either... but from what I've been told it's a term for people who might still be on the fence about what they see themselves as or have some sort of unique sexual/romantic/gender preference.

It can get complex. It's sort of an umbrella term for any minority non-binary sexual orientation. People who feel they aren't represented by the "broader" identities (Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Intersex) sometimes choose to just identify as "Queer".

As an example, if you're a transgender man, who still likes men - are you gay? Are you a straight transgender? Where do you fit into the "broader" scheme of things? Some people even consider asexuals as falling into the "Queer" category.

For a lot of people there simply is no 'category' you fall into, so identifying as "Queer" solves that, because it's basically a catch-all. Gay people can identify as Queer as well, even if they match the broader category.

There's a lot of debate about it, but what I think it boils down to is that it's not for anyone else to categorise who you are.

That is, If you don't get why Queer as a "label" is needed, or see the difference, it's almost irrelevant, because that means it's obviously not meant for you :)

The idea is to be as inclusive as possible.

Am I the only one who noticed he used the word Queen, not Queer? In that case, I think the openly, transvestite gays probably qualify as Queens.

I think most regulars know by now that InSanity's typing skills are somewhat questionable. :p
