Where can we get prescription Gunnar glasses in SA

I have a pair of these and I would like to change the lenses to match my prescription. I don't want yellow prescription glasses. I would like legitimate Gunnar lenses.

Any idea where I can go to have this done in Gauteng?

Gunnar don't make prescription lenses. The glasses are however prescription ready.

But take the frames to any optometrist and they will put whatever lenses you need.

dont even attemtp at having this done at spec savers though... phone around to optometrists they should be able to give you an indication of price as well

Nah that won't solve his problem since it's the lenses that make Gunnars special. I see that in the States you have to make use of an authorised optometrist. I don't know if there are any in South Africa but you can contact Gunnar to ask.

I have visited my local spec savers about this. In short, they were utterly useless. They kept telling me how they can make the glasses any colour I want(mine have the Amber lenses), no matter how many times I tried to explain that it is not the colour that matters.

I will pop an email off to Gunnar support and hope for the best. The Google search for Carl Zeiss optometrists is already running.

Will let you know if I am successful and also what the damage to my bank account amounts to.

I spoke to one of the reps and was told that you could have a prescription applied to Gunnar lenses but you would have to ship it off to the states.
So no dice on doing it locally.

Last time I looked you need to get them from the USA. Local optometrists just don't seem to get the difference between Gunnars and tints. Good luck

Gunnar support has referred me to their prescription program coordinater. Apparently she will be able to help out. I have mailed her, will post an update once I receive a reply.

thanks for the update UberFiend, hopefully she gives you some good news about a local shop that can help you.

I am going to necro the crap out of this thread, as I would like to know a bit more on this matter...

So it's been over a year that UberFiend tried to get prescription Gunnar glasses, and it seems that he had a bitch of a time to get them. So I would like to know if the situation as changed at all, and if so, where will I be able to get prescription glasses

The purpose of this is that I've notice I've been getting more and more headaches and lightheartedness from sitting in front of a PC screen the whole day. My eyes gets strained severely, and I want to try and get some Gunnar glasses to see if they will help.

I spoke to a few of our local optometrists, and the best they could offer was to put the same colour coating on the lenses, which does not really help as the coating is not what make the Gunnars work (if I understand correctly from their website). It would seem that the only way to do it would be to send them to the states, or send your prescription to the states and have the glasses shipped here.

thanks for the update. It's very disheartening to hear that though. So is there no option of getting glasses that will fit over your current prescription?

Otherwise, what else can we with poor vision do to alleviate our problems sitting in front of screens?

Well the only thing I've managed to do is asked them to put an anti glare coating on mine. It helps a little (especially driving at night), but as you said. Kinda negates the problem.

I use Gunnar glasses at home and at work. And I used to have vision problems but went for lasik eye surgery. So that's an option if you qualify. It's expensive but it's one of the best decisions of my life.

A second option is to use contact lenses with the Gunnars.

Unfortunately otherwise I suppose there isn't much you can do. :(
