Dark Souls 2 Thread

That game really does look pretty for last-gen. Is there still Pyromancy/Faith/Magic?

Yeah all the tropes are still there, with slight tweaks but they all work the same for the most part.

@BeoTek
How far into the game are you? Your character has some interesting stat allocation. I will try and have an image of my character stats up this weekend.

I have lit up half of The Gutter and at the same time working through Huntsman's Copse.
Yeah, I have a weird stat allocation but hey, it works for my play style. Kinda feel it's a DEX build but rely heavily on my rolling/dodging and quick attacks, hence the STA allocation. The DEX allocation is high to get dex scaling with the appropriate weaponry, which also buffs poison and bleed bonus. And those are the weapons I currently look for.

Herewith my top character, about 47hours of play time.

thats odd. I have played for about 52 hours and somehow i hit level 110 and have about 980k souls. am i playing too fast or are you playing too slow? :D i have cleared huntsmans plus linked areas. currently in Earthen Peak, yet to tackle boss.

Yeah, I taking it very slow and just taking it all in and exploring and taking my time. Just enjoying it so much.
Also, I haven't been using any of the souls I find, ie. Soul of a Nameless Soldier, Soul of Proud Knight, Boss Souls, etc... (don't ask why, I seem to collect them) :P

I'm at about 47 hours in now and I am level 118, just made it to Drangleic Castle. I have to admit though that I wouldn't be nearly as far if it wasn't for summoning phantoms during boss fights. Some of those bosses would have taken forever for me to beat on my own, but I just want to finish the game at least once so I can start messing around with different builds.

I'll admit I've had my fair share of summoning phantoms to help, but I at least try by myself first. I mean I battled for 3 hours to get the Lost Sinner and this is what essentially makes the game so much longer.

use the boss souls to craft cool weapons. The dragon rider bow is AWESOME!

wait, that doesn't compute. are you saying you spent 3 HOURS just in that room fighting the Lost Sinner ?? or do you mean you spent 3 hours in the whole of sinners rise trying from bonfire to boss, over and over ?

Yeah I also try to beat them on my own first, but if I struggle too much then I just end up summoning someone. Also if I make it to the next boss without dying (still in human form) I will usually just summon someone right off the bat so as not to "waste" my human form/precious human effegies.

Well as far as I recall there is only one bonfire, so every time you die, back to the top for you =P

... 3 hours later.... ARGH#%*&#%^* YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's a fairly small area, only takes like 10 min to get to the boss.

Well I'm around your level but am much further into the game, I haven't been rushing either... :/

hehe, i have taken my time (more than you but less than BeoTek). Not dode very often either coz i play super cautious and a total soul ho. The moment i get close to having enough souls to level or buy something, i run back to Majula.

I also have an OCD habit of farming enemies between bonfire and boss until they no longer respawn. Then onnly do i tackle the boss. As a spell caster, it means i am able to rock up at the fight with all my spells available.

Ah there are some of the key differences. I don't spend souls until I have a fair amount of them, usually after a boss fight. I also haven't done any sort of farming, none of the areas I've been have been cleared of enemies.

you must be rolling a solid MELEE build then. so you don't really have to worry about having used up consumables before reaching boss fight. my spell/miracle caster needs to be able to recharge at bonfire and then reach boss, ready to rumble :)

Well just got through That dark ass place, now in the Gulch or something! This is slow and tiring, and I'm out of poison resistance stuff, where can I buy or do I have to farm?

Yeah, the Gulch is a terrible place. Not as bad as the Depths for me, but still horrible. Not sure where you can buy poison resistance stuff, I had a ring for poison resistance when I went there but it didn't really help. You could always just smash all those poison spitting rocks, if you don't mind fighting the other enemies there a few times. They (the rocks) don't respawn if you rest at the bonfire, only if you see a loading screen do they respawn. So you can smash a few, go back to rest at the bonfire (to replensish your flasks) and go smash a few again. Also, if you have a bow bring some fire arrows and shoot those oil pits, should kill any enemies hiding in there quickly and it helps to light up the place.

There is also a "secret" area there, where those 2 giant worms come from the walls there is a ledge you can drop down to, make sure to light a torch so you can see it. IIRC you have to drop down once or twice more to reach the area, you will know it when there is like a big empty space next to you. There are 3 really tough giants in there though and if you kill them you get a giant's soul. It's a real tough battle though, they are really big and hard to kill and you can't see anything without a torch there. There is also a room with a chest down there.

cleared the Iron Keep last night. The boss was insanely easy.

i just hid behind that little house and flung lightening spears at him :)

i guess its down the well now for me.
