Watch Dogs official thread (PC and Console)

If you've got the dosh to buy games indiscriminately, yes. Most of us have to rely on reviews to maximize the enjoyment our money buys us. :(

Not at all. My philosophy is, once I decided I'm going to buy a game, I ignore all media regarding it. I still think it's best to wait till after release though.

I am at work atm, whats the verdict?

lol... His conclusion is basically, ""Watch Dogs is pretty good but it's not excellent. It's not excellent, it's a good game, it needs optimisation."

He rants about the protagonist largely just being an outright criminal and it being impossible to morally justify his actions. Also the protagonist's hypocrisy in hunting down criminals who, pretty much, do exactly what he does.

TB also bitched about the suspension of disbelief: situations like pulling a gun out and a citizen immediately calling the cops contrasted with stealing a car in a car showroom and mowing down three people without anyone batting an eyelid. As well as situations like citizens recognising him as "the vigilante" when they shouldn't even know what he looks like, yet cops fail to recognise him at all.

Called the driving "floaty."

Also bitched about the inconsistency of the mouse speed.

Largely just called the game and its story "ridiculous" and "silly" but that the gameplay is "extremely fun."

Has anybody installed the game yet or played it? I've installed it, but will only be able to play it after 4 today. Install took about 30 minutes from the 3 dvds. I haven't activated the game yet, so not sure if there is a zero day patch or not.

There is apparently a day one patch out, but supposedly it's not very big.

Have you already ordered watch dogs? Nvidia will be bundling the game with their new GPUs soon.

Nope not yet still waiting on some reviews day one patches , and to be honest , when I play it I want it to look amazing

Damn the government and this AG audit, I got to BT games at 18:00 and they've already done the till cash-in. I have to go home now and get back to work, I was hoping to kill it whilst WD was installing.

Only positive is my Vigilante CE purchase matches payday, but I'm still pissed.

Yeah unfortunately Nvidia are like children.

AMD have released a new driver specifically for Watch Dogs and from what I've seen and read there is quite a large improvement in performance, whats also nice is guys are reporting that with the new driver BF4 seems to run better as well.

My thoughts:

From a personal point of view the game doesn't run as well as it should considering that Nvidia was in house alongside Ubisoft over the past year.
Even with the highest end system the game suffers from stuttering issues, even on single cards, so I expect there will be more patching over the coming weeks. That said people are running the game on mid range machines and its running well apart from the stutters and massive frame drops every now and then for a split second especially when driving fast and through intersections, this happens on both high and mid range machines so def poor coding as far as that is concerned.

Visuals wise the game is pretty but its lack luster during the day, quite beautiful at night and early evening, reminds me a lot of GTA 4 with maxed graphics. The water detail is especially pretty, really dig that...ubisoft are pretty good at water detail.

I have to add that Ubisoft really tried to make this game run hardware into the ground when it really doesn't need all that power. I think if someone like Crystal Dynamics brought us Watch Dogs it would run quite a lot better and might look even better. At this stage its poorly optimized.

When all is said and done, Yeah the game is fun, its pretty much Ubisoft's attempt at making their own GTA, they had to pick something to set them apart and they then chose the whole hacking "thing" to make their game seem different when in fact the hacking isn't really needed...1 button hacking and silly pipe connection system hacking...things we've seen in other games for a long time.

Graphics: 8/10
Game Play: 8/10
Story: 6/10

So my personal verdict 7.5/10

Edit: Played this on my main rig so for people that are interested.

Intel Core I7 4770K @ 4.6Ghz
MSI Z87M Gaming Motherboard
Kingstong HyperX Beast 2x8GB 2400 @ 2600
Asus GTX780Ti DCII 1200 Core
2x Samsung Evo 250GB SSD's

Edit 2: Would also like to clear something up, people seem to have this idea that I've got a downer on this game but it really isn't, I pretty much play all the latest games to see how they run on certain hardware setups, very few games actually excite me these days and when Watch Dogs was announced it was one of those rare moments, I was incredibly excited about this game, a lot of guys prefer story over game play and graphics or the other way around. I actually prefer a happy medium, A good story, awesome game play and insane graphics.

With some games I just expect something more in the visuals department, especially when the company developing/publishing the game makes a big deal about the next gen graphics ect.

Anyway once I get to play the game for a few hours I'll be able to talk about it a little bit more and what I think about the over all visual quality.

Install the game try and create a Uplay account but I cant because the servers are down:mad:

Mmm, ah that probably explains my issue. Been trying to get the MP working for a few mins no without luck. First thought it might be firewall related, but now I can't login to uplay either.

Lucky for me though I can just go offline and enjoy more of the campaign.
