Well they could only make this for big prizes and small ones wouldn't have that requirement.

Nah, a new joiner could win and as long as he stuck around, there would be no feelings of being shafted. It's not so much them winning as winning and leaving :)

Look i do tend to agree, But maybe then it becomes something like with the new comp, only one prize is available to people that haven't been on the forum for longer than a month, so its basically all the new people vying for a prize and the long standing members going for 2... Or if long standing members out post new people then they would obviously get all 3...

I think the main purpose of the PS4 comp was to attract new members though... I wouldn't be surprised to see a month membership requirement in the future, as My Gaming gets more of a rep for awesome give aways the new members will start to come regardless...

That is exactly what I was implying though. You don't want someone like Vapor joining, getting a huge win like this and then never coming back.

I hear you, but then people just need to get used to the spamming then and not get frustrated by guys quoting themselves (Still laughing at this :p).

Also cant believe he quoted himself... Makes sense once we knew it was the same person though...
 
It's perfect as it is people. I find in unjust to have an opinion on how free things should be given away if the methodology is a fair as this.
 
Yeah James said himself the competitions are to attract new people. I can honestly say I wouldn't have stuck around if the competition hadn't been open to newbies, and then I would never have known what I was missing, as I have greatly enjoyed my first week here. The rules are fair. Everyone, new and old, stands a chance. Everyone, new and old, can disappear once they win the prize if they wanted to.
 
The comps are fine as they are.

MyGaming wins because they get traffic.
The sponsors win because they get exposure.
The chirpy new forumites win because they get to be part of a great community.
The grumpy old forumites win because there is new blood to be grumpy to.
And one person wins big time because his/her name gets drawn for the prize.
All this for a very reasonable amount of effort from the members.

Yeah, obviously he got confused about which profile he was using and quoted posts from Vapor with the Vapor profile when he meant to do it with the Orion profile.

With myself personally, I joined for the PS4 competition. And then I realised that there's absolutely no way I would be able to find time to submit enough meaningful posts to get me into the running anyway! I would rather not try than go the route of putting in ridiculously lame messages in for the sake of it.

But hey, maybe there'll be another chance for me to win a ps4 (EVERYONE seems to be out of stock anyways :wtf:) and at least I signed on to a great forum anyways so that's cool :)

Yip, I signed up purely for the comp, but im really glad i did now, awesome Forum this! And its been really great how accommodating the long term guys have been...

Cool to see that the people who joined for the comp have not just abandoned ship, just because the comp is over and they did not win the ps4.

Looks like it work out for everyone... May not have got a PS4 but i did get a community of like minded people to talk crap with indefinitely :D

Edit : Despite all the noise about new people coming here for the comp, there were only 4 of us in the top 25... Myself, BrendanVB, BlaaiSlaai, and Matt t... Quite surprising...
