I finally got the bloody thing, signing up was a pain. I am in Cape Town, Bellville. I am very happy with the results!

I will play a few Call of Duty 4 maps tonight, I have to hit the books now. Overall I am happy, I do not care about gaming performance.

Hey thanks chaps... that is some really good info. I expect telkom will offer better latency due to it not using retarded IPC links.

Those pings look better than to my router :\

Where are you located? Centurion
What is your average speed? Around 3MBs on 7.2 stick
What is the lowest download rate you had? Dunno
What is your latency when gaming? Dunno

All I can say is that I've not looked back after signing up with 8ta. It is an awesomely affordable deal and works fine for gaming.
 
Do you remove your modem when you switch your computer off? My computer goes past the BIOS but it does not load the Windows when my E173 is attached, if I remove it then Windows loads without a problem. It is not a problem but just a hassle to remove and insert the modem the whole time.

Anyone be able to help me?
 
Does anyone know if they will be extending their coverage. The pink part ends right AT our border wall. I want this contract so badly, and now I believe it is ending at the end of the year. I have emailed to ask them if they are extending coverage, but have had no reply. Maybe that is reason enough not to get the contract - but it is too good a deal.

hi pippa dont believe their maps but I do know they wont supply you the deal if you not covered but heres what you can do, go buy a R50 prepaid bundle load this onto a sim card from 8ta get them to convert the sim card to a data only card then do some random testing at home you might be lucky and this way you only lose R50 if you get no signal

Otherwise is there no one on the forum that can go test there by your place ??

I got the 10Gigs promotion and i love it. My av. download is 4-5MBs and upload is about 3-4MB/s and the best ping i think was 32ms. which is pretty good. i have the 21MBps Modem tho. And here's a tip: i can better my above results when i put my modem in a extended usb cable. I put one side in my Mac and the other in the modem then i place the modem in a cooking pot/pan and place it close to a window and the pot acts as a satellite dish for signal. i play hours online and lag come once or twice every couple of hours. Hope this helps.

Will 8ta test if I have coverage before selling to me, or do they know more than what is shown on the map?

Yep any Telkom Direct Shop or 8ta store. Bring your ID and proof of address of course ;)
Ask for the Sim Card for the R149(2Gig+1Gig) Special, that Sim will allow you to test for coverage.

Don't ask for a NORMAL Prepaid one!!

BTW PE has fairly good coverage.

Thanks NSB I completely forgot about that pre-paid package VERY good advice

And BTW you can buy a NORMAL sim you just need to request them to change it to a data only sim......even the 8ta 10gig sim was once upon a time a NORMAL sim so is the pre-paid sim you speak of
 
I am also in PE and have been using the Cell C 21mb/s dongle for gaming. works fine but have had hassles and was thinking about the 8ta deal. any PE guys have info using it. ill be playing battlefield 3 and halo reach online on xbox live. any feedback would be awesome

Hi Viking, I've given up on the, Converting to Non Roaming advice lately, it does take 3 days to get them to convert the specific Sim as well. Or is it quicker now days maybe I'm out of date ;)

It's probably easier and not to mention quicker to just get their Promo(R149) Sim to test for coverage :)

I play BF3(PC), works perfectly, I only get the normal Server Lag now and again. If your getting it for basically gaming and not much else, take Viking's advice above and get some air time and test for coverage first.
Your gaming experience will depend heavily on the quality of your connection, every one's is different, hence the advice to always test beforehand :)

Hey 8ta Rep!! My contract was activated on about the 7th of Oct. I got about 8gb of data.

The first debit order hasn't gone off? should my debit order have gone off 1st of November or is it only gonna go off on the 1st of December?

if it is the 1st of December doesn't that make it a 25 month contract?
