A good PC for around 15k?

Duke, my specs are as follows:

CPU: Phenom II 965 BE and I managed to get a nice, stable OC at 3.8Ghz.
Motherboard: MSI 790FX-GD70

I have 4 GB Kingston 1333 DDR3 RAM, which I'm upgrading to something else soon. Looking for some DDR3 2000.

XFX Radeon 5850

I also have a Coolermaster V8 Air Cooler and a Coolermaster HAF 922 Case.

Seeing as we sharing...

My new PC (Ordered 24 hours ago, shipping as we speak)

The Dual-GPU I modified for you based off my own order
http://www.take2.co.za/wishlistshar...77144d52bdc56c6e90e3e7f4310c7b4540t8947178463
(Just remember to count the Graphics Card twice... damn wishlist doesnt allow multiple of one component lol)

Difference between the 2?
The one I modified for you has Dual GPU, more memory, Bigger PSU. There is still a few Rand left in the one I made for you. You could very well go a step up in CPU to the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, even add some more memory or an even bigger PSU. There is about R500 to play with...
Just careful and make sure the PSU has 2x 6pin PCI-E plugs AND 2x 8pin PCI-E plugs.
(Each card requires 1 of each...)

Just as a matter of interest, while we're busy here- If a card requires 2 x 6 pin and 2 x 8 pin connectors, which the 6990 surely will, is it safe to have some of those pins on an adapter connected to the normal power plugs?

I also have a Coolermaster V8 Air Cooler and a Coolermaster HAF 922 Case.

Sexy.

Anyway, stumbled across these guys a few months ago, and just thinking of that HAF 922 made me druel over this puppy again... odd but sexy.
Same brand as the case I'm getting... but boy these cases are hard to come by!

***Slobbers all over the floor like a rabid dog***
Haven't been able to find anyone that can source that one though...

Nono!
Each card requires ONE of each plug.
The PSU I put in his build has 2 of each plug. (Just the right fit, hehe)

They are specific plugs;
"Normal" plugs with an adapter? Dunno... I would be too protective over my toys to tinker like that...

EDIT:
OHHH!!! You talking about the 6990 now... Hmmm...
Dunno.
The 6990 is specced to only use 300W... so I'm guessing it MIGHT get away with 1 of each?
Will have to wait and see on that one I guess...

Not 100% sure, but that looks a lot more like a Motherboard's CPU power plug adapter...
Anyway.
I dunno man.
I'm not all that clued to the inner workings of a PSU, but I can only imagine the rage if one were to use that, and ends up the power from the PSU going to Molex's aren't stable enough and *POP* goes the new R8000+ card...

I've never been a fan of adapters like those.
I could be dead wrong and its 538% safe to use; I've just always avoided em.

Yeah you get the adapters, that look like that, for the pins to the GPU as well. That's what I meant though, are they safe to use. Does anyone know?

This guy generally seems to know what hes talking about.
http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#pciexpress

According to him, as long as you aren't using splitters to run multiple plugs over a single PSU line, you should be fine.

If you use an adapter then be sure to plug the 4 pin peripheral connectors into separate cables coming from the power supply. If you plug them both into the same power supply cable then you are drawing all the power of the PCI Express connector through a single 18 gauge wire. You can usually get away with that but there's no reason to do it.

Wow, I feel very stupid in this thread :o!

I'm going to give this a think over and then get back to you guys :)

Thats all good man.
Think it over, but careful of overthinking/procrastinating.
It's a 50/50 gamble.
Sometimes the specials get even better, sometimes they fly right out the window.

I remember buying my PS3 bundle and THREE DAYS LATER, the exact same bundle went on special somewhere else for R1000 cheaper! lmao!

Anyway, you have my number from PM... gimme a call if you end up in a hard place...

Cool, GTX 560 x2 performs better than 6970 x2 (From what I read, so I'll go for that). I also have a be bought copy of Win7 Ultimate so its no added cost.

You would be mistaken:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-560-ti-sli-review/9

It performs about the same (if not slightly better in certain games) as a HD6870 Crossfire.

EDIT: So it turns out that the HD6870 beats the GTX560 Ti in certain games too .

EDIT2 : So it turns out that this thread page has been open for a while without being refreshed,. lol Sorry for the redundant info....:o

Bad news Duke.

Take2 (and by extension, their suppliers) are out of stock now on the CPU, Motherboard, Graphics Card, and DVD-drives.

As it is, the builds I have posted are now "dead", until stocklevels are replenished.

I've already used that base-build for 3 confirmed purchases for friends over the last 2 days - I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Once you've made a decision, I will go back and have a peek at rebuilding it with different parts.

No worries mate! I have friends who works for Rectron and Mustek so they'll get me the parts at stock price :D

Sandy Bridge motherboards have ALL been recalled.
Massive fault in the chipsets...

Please do not exagerate , its silly. There is no massive fault with the chipset. This so called massive fault only affects the sata 2 ports, you can use the sata 3 ports without any problems. Most of the asus mid - high boards have 4 sata 3 ports so for a lot of users it doesn't influence them at all.

For those don't want to wait for the new revised boards, prophecy shop still has stock of the older boards. They guarantee to swap it out once the new boards arrive if you want to.
