Is Age of Empires making a comeback?

Microsoft is looking for people to work on “the next installment in a beloved strategy game franchise”

It would be a GLORIOUS day if they made a sequel to Age of Mythology, but who owns the rights to it? Ensemble Studios made it, but they're defunct now. Age of Empires III was great in its own right, but the rush of gunpowder units and -towers killed the epic feel of a medieval battle.

If this comes out as something other than AoE then I'm gonna be very peeved at you kevin for raising my hopes only to smash them on the floor.

Microsoft owns the rights to three popular RTS titles: Age of Empires II, Rise of Nations, and Halo Wars. If I had to put money on one of them getting remade, it would be Age of Empires.

I too hope you are right.

Nothing would make happier than to see it come to pass. Of course, it'll impact on relations a wee bit with my beloved SO and cherubs, but it's a sacrifice I would be willing to make.
