February 24, 2010 - SEGA and Obsidian have sent word to IGN that Alpha Protocol, originally slated to come out in 2009, will be releasing in the first half of this year. Depending upon where you live, you'll have the chance to snag the upcoming RPG from the maker's of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 at different dates.

For North America, the release date has been nailed down as June 1. Europe will get it a few days earlier on May 28. Those in Australia will get it earlier still on May 27.

I think it will be really fun if it is done well.

Thats what worries me, Saw some gameplay footage last year with alot of graphical errors and little glitches in. Lets hope Obsidian can deliver coz if they cant fallout new vegas is doomed.

I watched the verge today and they showed a clip from it. does not look to fantastic. The graphics are average.

I know but still I am not to sure how good it will be in the long run.

I've seen some footage of the game and it just looks very average. When compared to Mass Effect 2 or even Mass Effect it loses in all aspects. The graphics are average and so are the animations, the whole thing has this budget feel to it when compared to Biowares game. I'll keep an eye on it but my gut tells me this one won't be that great.

Personally I don't really care for the gfx, story is what matters to me. What I do know is Chris Avellone is the lead writer and that basicly guarantees that the story will be very good.

No I agree that story is very important, but it's no use having an amazing story, but the gameplay sucks. From what I've seen so far the gameplay looks fairly sub-par, but maybe they made good use of these few extra months of development to polish up the gameplay. We'll see in May.

For me a good/great story has always been able to make up for sub par game play. If a game has a good story I will continue to play it even if I hate the game play but I won't play a game that has a poor story. This applies to rpg's.

I'm on the other side of that fence, I'll keep playing if the game is really good but has a crappy story, but I don't only play RPG's. I buy games to play them and I buy movies to watch them. So for me a game needs to be a 'game', hence why they call it a game, I'm going to play it. Story is second on the list of things a game should do well (bar racing games).

I am somewhat wary of Obsidian and bugs in their games.

Keeping an eye on this one.

For me gameplay > story, but story can sometimes easily makeup for bad gameplay.

Different strokes for different folks then. The reason I enjoy the crpg genre more than any other gaming genre is because its basicly an interactive story. That's 99% of my purchases come from that genre.

Meh. Obsidian. HUGE pinch of salt. KotoR2 and NWN2 were abysmal compared to the originals. I like to buy finished games.

True. but this is their own IP something they've been working on, who knows. After Rocksteady's epic Batman AA i wont be taking smaller studios so lightly anymore.

Original IP or no, it all hinges on them having enough budget and time to complete the project. They need to get it right this time. People in this industry don't too often get second (or third) chances.

Alpha protocol has been in dev for a few years now. I think they might full it off.

That's just an opinion. I loved KOTOR II and NWN 2 just as much as the first ones (I actually liked KOTOR II more than the first one). The only thing I hated about NWN2 was the inventory system, everything else was awesome. I still have faith in Obsidian and I know that Alpha Protocol will be awesome.

I don't see how you could have loved kotor2 more considering half the games' ending was missing. I mean sure, up to that point it was pretty cool and all but then it just went completely to hell. Worst. Endgame.Evar. And maybe NWN2 was good 'n all but it crashed endlessly and ran at a hitching 10fps on my machine back when it launched. Maybe patches fixed it but that doesn't change the fact that, at launch, it was a broken pos. I hear the expansion(s) are/were good but by then what little remained of my good faith had eroded completely.
Ah well. Maybe some people are more forgiving than others.
