Are people forgetting or just ignorant?

So me saying that my great grandfather died in a concentration camp by falling off a guard tower is wrong?

Right so how would you feel if for instance someone close to you (brother, sister, parent, friend) dies, and someone jokes about it, and makes fun of it?

I don't care much for Amy, but my point is the hypocrisy.
I can truly say I don't know how I would feel, my dad died a few months ago, but that as a complicated relationship, maybe I'm just cold and emotionless

lulz :D

Look at this story now at Tuks where some student "that suggested people should pose like Nazis to create a new social media craze." Seriously?
Heard that live and was think WTF too. Also, not "some student" but rather the Tuks FM DJ.

The Nazi thing is getting old though. There are concentration camps right _now_ in North Korea. Doesn't seem to bother anybody.

+1 true irony of the times and i bet if one looks into africa one would also find concentration camps.

maybe we need more people doing this to rember what happend back then and then stop it from happing again.
but every1 is to busy just trying to serive or gehead that we loose focus of why we want to get ahead

Although he couldn’t drive, Hitler loved cars and wanted every family in Germany to own a car. He even became involved in designing the affordable Volkswagen (The People's Car). The Nazis created a scheme whereby the workers could get a car. The Beetle, designed by Ferdinand Porsche, cost 990 marks. This was about 35 weeks wages for the average worker.

To pay for one, workers went on a hire purchase scheme. They paid 5 marks a week into an account. Theoretically, when the account had reached 750 marks the worker would be given an order number which would lead to them receiving a car. In fact, no-one received a car. The millions of marks invested into the scheme were re-directed into the rapidly expanding weapons factories. This accelerated as World War Two approached. No-one complained as to do so could lead to serious trouble with the secret police.

This is why the people that never went to war just start spewing this kind of kak. I must admit firstly that I've never been in the army and therefor fought in a war, but I have though about it a lot and I don't think any words could describe the terror, fear and all the emotions that goes along with it. Especially the ones connected to the holocaust and all the other big atrocities that have been committed by the insane leaders down in history lane.

I also think that it's human nature to be insensitive to things that you know is a touchy thing for others. It all comes down to people just being too selfish to care about any other human beings in the world, with the exception in a few cases, obviously.

People are getting ignorant and they will forget, especially the generations that were never involved. It's sad, but true. I will however stand with my feeling that people are getting more selfish, greedy and ignorant by the day. It might also be that the more we're discovering new technology and moving a much more digital age and even stuff like experimenting with enhancing humans to live longer with nanobots etc, it could be that we're losing touch with our humanity "as we know it"? I'm not sure..maybe I just have a crazy imagination? :D

We're all hypocrites dude, whether we would like to admit it or not. If you can admit to that, at least it puts you in a more honorable position :P

Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who are probably the most controversial producers out there, maintain that you either make fun of everyone ... or nobody at all.

Making fun of everyone is not discriminating against them, it's a product of the formula: tragedy + time = comedy. When you start distinguishing between who is ok to be made fun of and who isn't, only THEN are you're discriminating.

You may argue that some jokes are socially accepted to be more offensive than others, but no matter the joke, it will always be most offensive to those it is directed at.

There's a time and place for everything.

Sure, no one's perfect. I just dislike blatant hypocrisy :P

This statement in itself is ironic! Lol, love it! :D

Thanks for the +FF^16 :p

I'm not saying be an insensitive jerk and rip off people without remorse. But remember that what you dish out you must be able to take in return. At the end of the day it hardens you to be better prepared for life's unfairness.

Haha! No problem, some wise words there.

As you said, there's a time and place for everything. Use your own discretion in a respectable way.

As wrong as that is, it is also entirely correct. Don't be a hypocrite. If you are going to make of black people, or fat, skinny, clever, dumb, Jewish, Catholic or WHATEVER kind of people, you must do so of everyone. You cannot favour one over the other.

And therein lies the conundrum ... you can either be a hypocrite ... or a dick. :p

Try telling a rape joke to someone who's been gang raped at age 14.

SpoOkie, I hear you. Someone will ALWAYS be offended by a joke - and most likely for good reason. However the point I'm trying to make is that we are being self-righteous hypocrites when we decide who is allowed to be made fun of and who isn't.

We all have issues that we are more sensitive about than others. A rape joke, as tasteless as they are, offends a rape victim / family more than a suicide joke would. Two of my friends committed suicide in the past - and although I was distraught at the time, I managed to laugh at Amy Whinehouse jokes. Some jokes about gays / afrikaans (dutchmen) / lawyers / blondes / whatnot may be offensive to some and funny to others.

Point is, we're bound to offend someone somewhere along the time. So either we offend everyone ... or we stop our humour all together. The minute you* pick and choose you are no better than those who tell jokes that offend you*.

Please also include the part where I said "but no matter the joke, it will always be most offensive to those it is directed at. " in your quotation.

* referring to you (Joe Public) in the 3rd person and not Imber specifically.

Couldn't have thought of a better way to say it myself. +1

I understand where you are coming from. But certain things are best left alone in my comedy stratosphere.

Some "comedians" try and make a "joke" but it's nothing more than attention whoring at the end of the day. I get the thing about offending someone somewhere down the line, and I agree with you.... I can't think of anything more to say, I become braindead at 2PM on a Friday :P
