ArenaNet bans 3000 Guild Wars 2 players for exploit

I think that's bullshit, actually. If you buy a weapon for cheap there's no reason why you should get banned if you resell it. You can't take the blame for the weapon being sold for cheap.

I'm a bit conflicted about this. First it was something that was in game and didn't really 'scream' exploit so it should been Arenanets responsibility to sort out but at the same time it seems that the people who got banned were guys who did this 100's to 1000's of times so I think they had a pretty good idea that they were abusing the system and it wasn't just an accident.

Something similar happened in SWTOR with the whole illum loot chest thing, where low level guys could get there and collect very good high level loot. People also got banned in that instance.

Yes it's in the game and allowed but I don't see how anyone doing this could really have thought they weren't abusing stuff.

People bought 1000's of weapons and used them in the Mystic forge to stat them to lvl 80, then sold them off on the trading post and got super rich causing the economy to become unstable.

They did announce that to get banned you would have had to have used the exploit at least 100 times. That was there cut off for banning. These were obviously people who realised that it was an exploit, and used it. Hells, there were people who bought more that 1000..

I guess roll back those accounts was too high level for the techs.

It is a developer bug. I find it rather weak to ban people because of your fuckup, complete QA/QC fail.

Pretty much how I feel about it. Sure, people exploited the bug, but they still only did what the game allowed them to do. If there's an exploitable bug in your game, the blame falls on the developers, not a few players who use it to make a quick buck.

Agreed, ban the developers. lol

Almost all games of this nature, will ban players if they exploit a known bug.
Im pretty sure when you agree to the tos ect it'll be written in there hence the reason they got banned.

Anyway if you exploit known bugs for self gain then you deserve to get banned. Cheaters and
hackers deserve to get perma banned.

Edit:
Those found to have made use of the exploit have now been permanently banned from the game, as outlined by lead producer at ArenaNet, Chris Whiteside. However, he’s offering a way out for those that wish to make amends for their crimes against Tyria. Anyone that submits a support ticket, pledging to give up all items purchased and all money rewarded from sales of said items, will have their ban switched to a 72 hour suspension. Once the account is re-enabled, players will need to stand by their promise or face returning to the depths of a permaban.

However, Mr Whiteside said this wouldn’t be a common event. In future, those exploiting bugs in the game wouldn’t be offered any redemption. “This is a first and final warning. Moving forward, please make sure you that when you see an exploitable part of the game, you report it and do not attempt to benefit from it.”
