Avatar!!!!!!!!!!

I hear the budget for the movie was the most ever?

I got a free ticket so i'll get to see for myself what the movies is like soon enough.

Yes, budget has been speculated to be upwards of $500 million - $280 for the production (incl. post-production) and then more than $200 for marketing or something like that.

avatar is very cool. it will never be as classic as movies like Star Wars though, simply because of the bits of american and pop culture they squeeze in

i wonder is it really necessary for them to have spent sooo much on marketing? I mean, if a movie is good then word of mouth will get the sales up?

For all their marketing, I only went to go see the movie last night in 3D and I was blown away. I guess I've been living under a rock for the last month :)

There are already some rumours going that George wants to re-release it with 3d. ;)

Oh i know.

A fanboy i am.

How much is the 3d avater tickets. And are they still showing it.
they are still showing it this week, don't know if anyhting is gonna change tomorrow being Friday and all.

R30 at NuMetro on half price WEdnesdays, 3D. I saw it y/day in 3D.

Full price for 3D is R60-R65 depending on if its SK or NM showing it.

Not sure if u can use a Clicks Club card to get discounted tickets at NM. Still wanna try that.
Otherwise Discovery Vitality would get u discounted prices at SK.

Not sure if they still have half price Tuesdays for SK club members?

NM accepts clicks club cards during the week, at least my one does.

Cool :) Not an option when booking online I see, so that's why I wasn't sure! How many tickets can u buy with a Clicks Clubcard and at what price? Does it need to be a Gold clubcard?

Sorry, going a bit offtopic here :o

You are limited to two tickets per card, at NM cinemas its R25 per ticket with the card for the regular 2D movies. I'm not sure if it needs to be a gold clubcard, I doubt it.

Am I the only one in this whole damn world that did not enjoy Avatar? After watching it for a second time I came to notice a lot of thing. For instance: The ONLY character in the entire film that I empathized with and felt had any type of redeeming qualities in Avatar was Neytiri, and maybe her people. And that’s a problem, because that cuts out 95% of the cast of Avatar. And Sigourney Weaver? Why was she even there? Did she even need to be in this movie? Who knows maybe its not the actors fault how the hell are you supposed to act well when the whole movie is filled with major plot holes? What plot holes you may ask? The humans are able to blow up a tree the size of a skyscraper but then flying animals and spears take them out? Really?

If Cameron was that clued up on this new technology, why not bring in someone to co-write the script at the very least. This could have been the best movie ever. Instead it was cut/pastes of dialogue behind a curtain of “shock and awe” effects. That’s why you get these massive plot holes. Was there a potentially good story in Avatar? Yes there is. Is there underlying sub plots like Nature vs. Technology? Yes there is. I do get that. Is there a lot of “grand” undertones and world issues in Avatar? Sure. I’m not a complete idiot, I do see some of the messages and I get them.

Now, let me at least acknowledge what an amazing achievement Avatar is. I can’t possibly comprehend the amount of work gone into the movie, I respect the effort. I respect the detail that has gone into the movie, and I respect that an entire world was created from the single mind of one person. To say I was dazzled and visually stunned is an understatement. I’m in full agreement that this movie blew me away technologically more than any movie I’ve ever seen. But the bottom line is , Avatar is like a video game with great graphics, but shitty game mechanics.

Larch... Could not have said it better. Agreed with everything you said.
I really appreciate how you took the time to substantiate yourself and to explain why you feel the way you do. I might watch it again, but definitely not at the cinema. Keen to see how I feel about it second time round

I enjoyed it visually but the script and parts of the plot left much to be desired. I strongly feel that gorgeous visuals carried this film to the top of the ratings (the visuals in themselves are a massive achievement)

A-list actor recruited to make an A-list movie I guess, but point taken!

Tree not hit back. Na'vi do :p

True, kinda like George Lucas' Star Wars trilogy (the new one) only not as bad :p. Special effects rocked but storyline and dialogue sucked!

Well, I don't know that the entire world was that original, I'm sure he borrowed tonnes of ideas from other sources. After all, this movie has been in the making for 20 years (in concept at least). That said, i did think he put it all together very well.

True. I still plan on seeing it for 2nd time tho, but perhaps thats when I will notice the crappy 'game mechanics'.

I really enjoyed the movie but really didn't nitpick the plot. Went into it with no expectations as I had heard hardly anything about the movie and was blown away. And how cool would that be to control another biological entity like they did the avatars? Ethics aside of course :) Within the context of the imaginary world of Avatar, I don't see how the Na'vi would have agreed to having their DNA harvested for the purpose of creating human/Na'vi hybrids! And I was surprised that they didnt find the hybrids even more repugnant than they did
