Azimuth's favourite games of 2010

Damn, not a lot of love for Darksiders here. IMO it was a truly great game, I cannot wait for the sequel.

To each his own bro but I played the original God of War right after Darksiders and consider it a hugely better game than Darksider.

As you said, to each his own. I happen to think that the God of War series is lame and Kratos himself is even lamer. Castlevania is better than all three GoW games combined IMO. Hell, even Dante's Inferno (considered to be a GoW rip-off) is better than GoW III.

Ill admit GOW III wasn't as awesome. I personally loved GOWI, back when it was still a greek tragedy. Haven't played enough of Castlevania to deliver judgement.
I think the problem with Darksiders was that not once did it excite me. The combat was flat and boring, the puzzels straight forward and the level design predictable. Story was also so-so. So yeah.

You make Lord Von Prong sad, ThunderAxeâ„¢.

Darksiders: ............

Alan Wake: I wanted to like it, I even bought the collector's edition. It turned out to be a bit... meh...

Bioshock 2: Solid game, disappointing compared to Bioshock 1. Not one of my highlights of the year.

Halo Reach: I lost interest a few hours in, haven't picked it up again and its not likely I will.

My Favorites:

Red Dead Redemption: Great game.

BC2: Awesome game, wish it had better support from the developer to give it longer legs (more content!) or the mapping tools released so players could create some more maps, but still a great game.

ME2: Awesome game, no need to say more.

CoD Black Ops: I've been one of the fortunate PC players who has had no problems with it. I did enjoy BC2 more, but for me its at least an improvement over the whole MW2 mess.

Starcraft II: Out of all the games released this year, its going to be the only one I come back to for the next couple years.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent: Revived the DEAD survival horror genre. Highly memorable and may very well be my game of the year, which comes as a surprise since my expectations weren't very high.

Fallout: New Vegas: Enjoyed it. The swift day 1 patch saved its ass though. There were still some gameplay/quest bugs left over, but nothing that didn't spoil my fun.

/DIES :p

All this adds to my theory that there are few truly "bad" games. Its all objective and depends on the player.

Darksiders had awesome characters and a great story IMO. I don't know if you finished the game, but the puzzles get tougher later on, especially when you get to the black tower.

Did finished it one of the harder difficulties. I wouldn't say awesome characters... and the plot felt like something out of that constantine movie. it had a unique look but just didn't grab me. I have this thing about having to redo a level later on in the game when a certain ability is unlocked. It feels like lazy design to me, rather hide or place them so that it takes skill to get to them rather than having to keep coming back. Using freshly unlocked abilities to get collectables in the level where u unlocked the ability makes a brilliant little tutorial.

The controls and combat also felt stiff and un refined. Considering how well a game like batman AA handled a one button attack system Darksiders system feels deeply flawed.

I must say, ME2 was the only game that game me goosebumps. What an epic game, I'll never forget it :)

Can't wait for #3!

Totally agree. I loved every minute of this game - everything about it was awesome. Great art direction, great world design, great characters, great voice work, great weapons, great combos, great boss battles. It was an utter joy to play.
