Battlefield 3 Beta:Your thoughts

Well last night i got around to jamming the BF3 beta and heres my initial thoughts thus far

Hitreg: Spot on, this is by far the best hitreg i have come across, i'll go so far as to say it goes "one up" on COD, its very well done, its now really obvious this game was dev'd for PC, Hitreg is sublime!

Graphics: Big talk about this, mine was on auto and i was getting about 40 fps to about 55 fps, i noticed alot of things where set to high so i dropped everything to medium and got between 55fps to 75fps. Was interesting to note is the frame drop is very minimal and not "sudden" either. The detail, lighting and gun flash and what not is brilliant. If ever any1 had a doubt that this game was not the next gen game, come play it and see for yourself because in this case seeing is believing.

Gameplay: First thing i noticed is this game stands apart from BC2, it holds no similarity at all beside one or two sounds like the MCOMS :) The character animation and MOVEMENT is tops, really is, i am so pleased with this, for a beta is very well done. I unlocked the flash light last night and man you can cause havok with that little light, blinding enemies and gunnign 3 okes donw ina room is priceless when all they see is a bright light, be careful thoug as it effects your teamies too, i ended up being tk'd because they couldn't see my tag, go figure "whistling:

Weapons: This is what im liking the most, recoil and accuracy is there, this is def not the run and gun type of game at all, it requires well placed shots and most off its a skill rewarding game, the WORD SKILL is very important to take note of

Battlelog/Origin: I must say for a web based server browser its actually very well done, its a new concept and challenged the norm but its actually very well done for a web browser, you could be easily fooled to think it wasn't a web based browser, battelog is actually very well done. Now the game infact does start up VERY fast, i mean fast, join the server and you in 15 secs or so, much faster than BC2's ingame browser when returning results too, lets not forget the game was under huge pressure last night, i felt BF3 and battlelog held its own in this regard. Now origin, besides launching the actual game i see no point of it, your friends are NOT carried over to battlelog, its quite clear now, origin is an EA pushed agenda, ok whatever lets just roll with it.

issues: Whilst many of my clan mates had issues with joining a server because they had an old key attached to their account, i didn't find many. One or two graphical errors here and there, sometimes you cant ads too, server crahed about 3 times yesterday int he space of 3.5 hours, not too bad for day one launch. Small issues that i beleived are already resolved in the final game build. Its def not a game "riddled" with bugs

Final thoughts: This is just a beta but wow im blown away, from the start its made very clear that "my name is BF3 i am the next gen fps, play me and find out" those of you who can play it go for it! its def heading for GOTY and i am very impressed. Well done to DICE, not so much to EA as they have buggered up a few things here and there. All i can say is im going to enjoy the next two weeks :D

PS: Perhaps and Xbox and PS3 owner can come forward and give their thoughts thus far, im keen to hear what you guys think :)

Very very well said dude, it's everything I have in my head about the game. When this game goes live, will all the maps and vehicles and game types, etc, it is going to pwn all, that is all I can say.

Buzz would also like to thank R4C3 for making his playing experience possible last night... :D

Ohh and iGame for our keys..

your pc specs?

Specs:

CPU: Phenom II X6 1055T @ stock 2.8 Ghz (have not checked core utilization but it appears to be using all 6)

GPU: MS HD6870 no OC'ing

RAM: 4GB Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz

Side note: there was really not lag/frame lag in this game, was very happy with that, feels very optimized

i was also running the catalyst 11.10 driver

from just one aspect (ground based infantry warfare) its already a job well done, with jets, heli's and the level of customisation one can already see that this was no hash dash job by a long shot, BF3 seems to be pushing for the Next Gen FPS title, the one thats sets the bar just as cod4 did, but tbh BF3 is rather revolutionary!

I will give feedback this evening after I get some time in to play. I should have the PS3 beta as well by the weekend and will then give feedback on the differences, be it graphics or gameplay.

excellent man, to hear your comparison because you'd have played both will be valuable for some okes deciding PC/PS3

any xbox players? wheres matt!

battlelog should be killed, its horrible :(

game is smooth, hitreg works, though guns is not balanced, the m4 carbine feels better then the ak47.

some others say its the other way around and all they want its the Ak74M.....i kinda felt everything balanced but right now im only playing Assault and support

Well said Buzz. I was very impressed with the game, although my initial impression of Battlelog was dimmed due to the technical back-end issues at the time (Before the beta) Everything seem to be working rather well last night. Battlelog seem to have been fine under the increased load. The servers did buckle a little under the load, but so far not bad at all for the beta.

Had a very brief game last night with Waco and some of the others. Enjoyed it thoroughly, I didn't notice any bugs apart from the odd laggy shot. Graphics are amazing, explosions, muzzle flashes, fires etc. are all very well done. I received around 80FPS yesterday on Ultra, almost like Crysis:wtf:

Sounds are phenomenal, similar to BFBC2, very very well done. Crystal clear, directional sounds are clear, one can easily identify noises 360 degrees around you with a decent headset. Explosions, again, sounds fantastic.

Origin is my only gripe, would have been great to have BF3 on Steam but alas. There are a handful of problems I have identified. Mainly to do with the friends text chat, crappy download speeds (temporarily I assume) and horrible profiling/community on Origin. Can't even change your avatar. Then again it's still in beta, they'll probably fix all this closer to launch date.

So far 8/10

one thing i did notice is it stands apart from BC2, two things:

Killing okes from long distance is possible, i didnt like BC2's gun sights, long distance kills where always a grip

Okes DONT tank in this game, they really dont, normal is more like BC2's hardcore, infact easier to kill than BC2's hardcore, but i believe this has much to do with the massively improved hitreg
