Bulldozer is the future.

The Joker

There is most definitely a Windows 7 AMD FX – software patch in the works. By most estimates the AMD Bulldozer FX is underperforming by 40-70% in most Windows 7 benchmarks. By forcing Windows 7 to recognize 8 cpu cores a huge performance hit has happened. The Bulldozer FX-8xxx design… really isn’t 8 cores, it’s a 4 core CPU with an extra integer pipeline on each core. If the FX-8xxx series scale according to the 4 and 6 core Bulldozer design than there is a serious bug in Windows 7 that is crippling the FX-8150 performance.

The one thing that is for-sure here is that every hardware review website rushed to be the first to publish an AMD FX-8150 review, they all used the same generic benchmarks and NONE did any real world computing. The game is fixed, the big-dog spreads around the most ad-dollars.

This makes for interesting reading and is also the reason why I am getting my FX8150 at the end of the month.
We should see huge performance gains when these patches/fixes get released.

Also the current set of benchmarks already prove that the BD can run with the 2600k, so just imagine when the fixes/patches get released.

If all pans out AMD will pawn Intel completely.

jeez ..Good read this .. thanx joker ..

Im reposting this on NAG forums and ill credit you ,

Your welcome. I am quite shocked at this and now I am actually quite looking forward to windows 8 launching sooner than later. Hopefully all this will get sorted and BD will pawn :D

No dont say that just after I got Intel whahaha

LOL you're rig is a monster. You really don't need to worry about upgrading to BD.

Hm, that is indeed very interesting. Can't wait to see how much of a difference this fix is going to make. Guess I'll hold off on that Phenom 965 for a bit longer. :)

Thanks for the update Joker.

I reckon the difference will be immense. People were judging BD way to early and now the facts are coming to light.
I reckon BD will pawn in BF3 with the proper drivers, also as far as I know there will also be bios updates for mobo's to sort out some of the issues. All in all its a taste thing, I've always been a amd fan, yet I run both amd and intel systems. Once I get my hands on the FX8150 I will probably sell some of my intel rigs but I will still hold onto my one 2600k.

up until now all the benchmarks point to 2 main things, crap bios implementation and software that's not been coded to handle how bulldozer makes use of it's cache and cores.

waiting game still in effect essentially. bios updates and win 7 patches needed asap

til then i'll be rocking a phenom 2 x4 965 :)

This is great news... competition is what keeps the products getting better and cheaper! (example of no competition: Telkom).

So the Bulldozer is nice, when is Intel releasing their new chips?

This would be really cool if a simple "patch" can fix it, but as with all things IWBIWISI.

Well it will, If you read through the page I posted you'll notice that the problems have been found and they are now working on getting them sorted. I think BD will becomes better with age, I've got my FX8150 on order already, spent R2300 on it. That's how much faith I have in AMD. :)

As for Sandy Bridge E and socket 2011..they aren't out yet so I can't say anything about it. I know they will perform well, we kind of expect that from intel. Just don't be shocked when you see the price of socket 2011 boards and cpu's.

Joker, let us know how these CPUs measure up to the Intel processors when you ever get the chance to test them!

Interesting makes complete sense. Obviously the instructions sets Native to the FX chips has changed signifcantly (Well duh, I mean hell now you have an extra pipeline) So I guess we'll have to wait and see what type of monsters or monstrosities Intel is gonna come up with , with their new chips coming next year.

There were talks about this when the benchmarks came out good to know it's true. This will be great for competition! At the moment I'm waiting for Ivy bridge but if BD looks good I might just go for it as I'm itching to get my first AMD pc.:D

I'm all for it and would be glad for the amd support if it works and is as easy as that, but you can't blame me for wanting to see it happen first :)
