Buying games on release day is a bad idea

I haven't done many pre-orders, maybe three or four in total.

I currently have TW3 pre-ordered (thanks to the monthly iGame comp), which I know I'm going to enjoy. After missing out on the physical copy of TW2 at launch, I'm not letting that happen again. If Konami does a physical release of MGSV:TPP, I'll probably pre-order that too. Otherwise, I usually just wait for sales. It seems so silly to spend all that many, when 4-6 months later, games are so much cheaper.

I also think pre-ordering special editions is a huge risk. If you don't like the game, you've now you've lost a bunch more than you would have if you got the normal version. Plus there's always those guys who buy Collectors Editions, then 3 months later have buyers remorse and sell then for cheap. Once again, there's no point to pre-order.

GOTY for me

Well I did Pre-order Homeworld remastered but that is because its not really a new game, more of a fixed up old one.

Hell I would have payed the same amount, just to get the old game running on 1920x1080 in Windows 8.

Same. GOTY is the safest bet.
Never really pre-ordered because you know, priorities :p

Thought this was pretty relevant.

I prefer this one. :p

I've got a few collectors editions, namely Dark Souls 1 and 2. But again, I'll only pretty order what I get hyped for and had a great duds, but I won't get a collectors edition unless I know it'll be good. Like Destiny, although I'm done with the game I won't get rid of it cos it's just and awesome collection.

Some of the pre-order incentives/collectors edition are rather tempting, but my rule of thumb is to only pre-order games that has multiplayer that I'm sure my buddies will be jamming.

That being said, MP games are generally riddled with problems on launch so don't listen to my rule :D
