I haven't done many pre-orders, maybe three or four in total.
I currently have TW3 pre-ordered (thanks to the monthly iGame comp), which I know I'm going to enjoy. After missing out on the physical copy of TW2 at launch, I'm not letting that happen again. If Konami does a physical release of MGSV:TPP, I'll probably pre-order that too. Otherwise, I usually just wait for sales. It seems so silly to spend all that many, when 4-6 months later, games are so much cheaper.
I also think pre-ordering special editions is a huge risk. If you don't like the game, you've now you've lost a bunch more than you would have if you got the normal version. Plus there's always those guys who buy Collectors Editions, then 3 months later have buyers remorse and sell then for cheap. Once again, there's no point to pre-order.
