Buying games on release day is a bad idea

I've bought a few games on pre-order, but these days, I'm happy to wait, there's always other games to keep me busy and then I can get the game later for much cheaper, when the bugs are fixed, reviews are out and I can make an informed decision, and possibly get a version that includes DLC like a GOTY editition

Not always, some titles (specifically Steam/Origin titles) will use the savedata generated by the Demo so no more replaying the first level/10 minutes

Ok that would be awesome! Iv found demo's only work for me with non story orientated games, mainly because of this...

The last title that worked with that I got an "official" demo for was Mass Effect 3, it just kept my savegame data and all was well when I installed ME3

Price doesn't factor into my decision making when it comes to games ever so is a non factor. Will pre-order the game if I like the look of it, only ignoring those of companies on my bad list.

The last game that I pre-ordered was DA:I and I cannot say that I was burned in any fashion. The only game in the last few years that I regret buying on release was BF:4. But the issues with BF:4 persisted waaaaay past release so I don't think it matters.

For me; I don't think the answer is to only wait to purchase the game at a later date. Pre-order games can be well done; it isn't an issue we can make completely blanket statements about.

I only pre-order games I really want and where I really trust the developer. So at the moment I have Witcher 3 pre-ordered and I'll get Batman Arkham Knight as soon as it becomes available (and if I have a Kalahari voucher... perhaps even a sale).
I'll even go so far as to say that I'll pre-order Just Cause 3, any game released by CD Projekt Red, Quantic Dreams and maybe even Bioware.

Last game I pre-ordered was Dragon Age 3 and so far I can't say that I'm disappointed. It's not like they can screw up the ending again, right? :) Besides, this isn't really the same as Mass Effect so the ending don't matter that much here.

I don't pre-order games and I don't buy games in their first couple of months. By the time I play the games they are much much cheaper, has far less issues, have dlc released already and I'm no longer influenced by the hype.

I dont mind pre ordering if I really want a game and am gonna get it no matter what but I dont buy many games maybe five a year.

I hardly pre-order games any more. Unless I'm pretty certain I won't be disappointed. Like with Resident Evil HD Remaster.

or if its a Starcraft 2 expansion.

Yes...... but also especially collectors editions of Startcraft......

I pre-ordered Final Fantasy Type 0.

It's shameful.

I don't even know a damn thing about the game, or whether I will enjoy playing it - but, welp, they've got a Final Fantasy XV demo with it, so...

Shameful.

These days the only time I'll pre-order a game will be to get the collectors edition.

100% agree. The article was silent on it or was it inadvertently omitted.

My personal loss was missing out on the Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty CE. I now immensely regret it.

I played Type-0 on PSP, (In Japanese however), and I can confirm that the game itself is actually pretty good. Also I cannot be mad at any decision that includes an iota of FF XV :D

Also been tempted by Type-O due to the XV demo... But with every previously-on-portable remaster for consoles I've really struggled to get past the low budget feel of the games. As handheld games they are/were good. Translated to console and priced higher than their handheld counterparts, not so much.

If someone can just throw money at something in order to make it scale to great heights; it's Square Enix I guess. Even if it was exactly the same as the PSP version it would be worth playing. Like I said it's really good

I'll hold you to that... [emoji14]

May check it out then. Starved for some Final Fantasy. And if it sucks, hopefully the XV demo is quite lengthy (and good).
