buying new PC,need help choosing parts.

Oh yes, value RAM works. But more isn't always better when it cones to RAM, rather get 4 gigs of faster, better RAM to start off with, then buy more than get value RAM that runs slow and doesn't look cool :P

I had just woken up when I posted all that. What I was trying to say is, get faster RAM rather than more RAM. Especially if you don't plan on overclocking. You can always buy more RAM but you can't simply buy faster RAM without selling/scrapping/giving away your slower RAM

It depends on what you are going to use it for. If you have 8GB but use less than 4GB, faster RAM will work better. But if you upgrade later because you need more you would have wasted money on it.

Like in my case I run BOINC and a RAM-drive so 8GB of budget RAM would be a minimum for a hex-core cpu.

Well, Personally, I have 12GB of RAM and I use a maximum of like 7 so far. I just always bought as much as I could. But I never thought about speeds, just always went for bulk. Next time I will get speedier RAM and not as much as I could afford. Which isn't to say I'm unhappy. Far from it. Insurance took in my 8GBs of disappointingly ugly DDR3 Value ram after a lightning strike and replaced it with cool DDR3 1333 HyperX blue heatsinked RAM ;)

I'd consider replacing that WD Caviar with a 2TB Seagate Barracuda LP. They are slightly slower but REALLY low on power use and heat generation.
