ChessConquest - official discussion thread

I suggest that having timeout victories count less than resignation and checkmate victories leaves the system open to abuse. For example, if I were vindictive I might let a game time out rather than resign, thereby depriving my opponent of some rating points. Not only that, my rating would take less of a hit with a timeout loss than with resignation.

My view is simple. A win is a win, whether it be by timeout, checkmate or resignation.

Sure, but earning full victory points for a timeout win doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.

I think a balance between the two would be good. Like Solitude and I suggested... if a timeout occurs during the first couple of days (e.g. 2 days), it counts less so that it would encourage some of these speed game players to rather play for a win than to count down the seconds for a timeout victory. If after 2 days, the opponent still hasn't moved (thus trying to exploit the system due to losing position), it should count full points.

Fair enough. I can go for that.

I agree with this too

I found an interesting "feature" in Chessconquest. I was looking at previous positions in a game I am currently playing when I noticed that the "Make Move" button was active. I then made a move on the board (remember it was not the current position of the game) AND CHESSCONQUEST ACCEPTED THE MOVE, and chose it as my current move.

I assume the reason that the move was accepted is that the move was legal in the current position (it was not legal in the position I was looking at). No harm done in this instance; it was the move I wanted to make anyway.

Still, this is a dangerous feature because one might inadvertently make a move that is legal on the current board while looking at a previous position. The result may be catastrophic.

Yotta, I think that this should be fixed: my suggestion is that you not be allowed to select a move if you are looking at a previous position.

And to my comrades, I suggest you look carefully before making a move if you have been looking at previous positions in a game: it could cost you the game if you are not careful.

Woohoo! I just became the third South African to join the ranks of tournament winners!!!

I am besides myself, and it was a win fair and square in the finals against fanard.

One time I missed timeout by 4 mins!!!

Btw I think checkmate definitely believes a timeout loss is less heavy on rankings than real loss - I also saw him/her stop responding to my game when about to lose, while contiuing on other games

Congratulations Vuade! Those were good games in which you used your opportunities.

May there be many more :)

Thanks guys, tbh, it was exhausting. I really tried to apply myself, and concentrated the sh!t out of those games. Now i need a break from CQ :-) just gonna finish the games I am busy with, accepting no new games for a while..

Congrats.
I've recently only started challenging and accepting new games with 5 days to move and 15 days timebank. Not accepting anything less than that. That slows things down a bit as CQ can get quite hectic.

Hey... remember a couple of months ago, we were takling about these Romanians that probably have multiple accounts to boost their ratings, etc., etc.

BUSTED :D

Ok, so he is not actually Romanian, but at least the Romanians are smart enough not to link their picture to their profile :)
These 3 guys are the same person and looking at their multiple games of fool's mate against each other, I'd say that those games are either rigged or that he is so paralyzed with fear when going up against himself, that he gets caught out with fool's mate every time.

In the guy's defence though... I've played against his light and markjaren persona before... and both of them were very nice :)... they weren't bad players either plus they are more than willing to play with a large timebank.

Almost made me choke on my sandwich.

He is so tremendously kind that it just makes me feel bad when I started winning; it's an admirable strategy.

+1 for his light persona

Interestingly enough I just got an email from ChessConquest that says:
"You have pending games at ChessConquest, where the time allowed per move has been exceeded."

However all my games that I'm playing have time left.

Will follow up on this...

Well done Vaude... definitely something to be proud of...

...and the Romanian did not take the timeout... must be the reason why it's snowing in South Africa...

Of course!!! now we know why!!!

Anyone know what happened to willie? I am playing him in tournament - his time has run out on the one game, and hasn't moved on ANY game in the last 2 days, and his vacation time has run out

Pre-occupied with the Olympics is my guess!

So Yotta, what was the last discussion around vacation days again? Any chance we can get some increase?

I'm moving at the end of the month so I can see disaster ahead as I'm unsure about when Telkom will install the line at my new location.
