For sure... I just barely survived by constant checking her king with my queen.

Well done for fighting on. I like your sig; it seems appropriate given the circumstances.

In your game you were able to exploit the fact that on move 20 many of White's pieces were posted away from the action in pokey little corners while you were able to generate threats that your opponent was not able to meet effectively. That is the whole secret of chess: identify where the critical action is, and control that area. It is not the count of pieces on the board that matters as long as you have enough pieces in the critical area to finish your opponent off.

Well said Tallfred.

It's nice to see that ChessConquest has a community of beginner and advanced chess players.

When I play novice players, I sometimes notice they'll swop a more valuable piece for a less valuable piece (e.g. a castle for a knight). Knowing the numerical values of chess pieces, is invaluable when making exchange decisions in your game.

This following article describes these values

Oh dear, this morning I played the obvious move without thinking. I just did it. The problem was that my opponent (Dyeros, bless the fellow) had set a little trap for me, so I got checkmated for my carelessness. Worse, I saw that I had blundered about a second after I pressed MOVE... but it was too late.

I forgot the advice I was given long ago by someone who had been bitten himself: If you find your hand reaching out to play an obvious move before you have analyzed it, slap it with the other hand and then sit on it. THEN DO NOTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE THOUGHT THE MOVE THROUGH.

Follow his advice: you will be so glad you did.

OMS. Got checkmated in a tourney when the guy's clock fell on 0.0 . Didn't claim, aka gave him the win. The amount of 'yoh' I heard was probably more than I heard in my entire lifetime. Not everyday you see this.

I feel for you, Lyt. When you don't enforce a win on time you always run the risk of losing yourself. Last year this time I was bemoaning a game where I let my opponent off the hook. The very next move he claimed a win on time (I overlooked his move somehow) and then had the audacity to taunt me with the words "I am better than you!"

And I even had the better position... :(

Solitude and ViperGTI - I see you two also took a break from Chessconquest. I've recently started again - How about a game?

Hi Vuade, long time no see!

I haven't been at ChessConquest in a long while unfortunately. I've been playing at Chess.com. I've got quite a few games going on at the moment but after they've dwindled down a bit I will go challenge you at ChessConquest. :)

Does chess.com also have turn based games?

Yeah they do plus live ones too. The nice thing is that you can join groups. For instance I'm part of the South Africa group and then we play against other countries in a World League. You then play against people of close to your strength. If you decide to join then let me know and I'll add you as a friend. :)

Hi... Long time.
Haven't been online here (or at CQ) in quite a while or played chess or done any gaming. Work is pretty busy at the moment so maybe next month things will clear up a bit. Will hit you up then.
