choosing an uncapped adsl ISP

This is FACT: If you pay less than R1000 for uncapped, you're gonna get throtled after the first week of every month. After that, each ISP has their own issues.

Im currently paying R305pm for my 384K uncapped with Wazzup ISP.
And during the year I been with them, I have had no problems.
I use about 50 - 60GB per month. download speeds are good (for a 384k line).

I'm converting to the free Telkom 1MB with 5GB cap from Sept to save some money for 3 months, then I'll see if I still need uncapped, as I'm on CTWUG and get all my latest stuff from there.
 
When you say uncapped, how much bandwidth do you typically plan on using?? might be worthwhile looking into a large capped account from afrihost or something otherwise

what a bunch of BS ........ I've been with Mweb since Feb and have done 200-300gb every month, my streaming smooth and my gaming is A ok. Yes there is the odd hassle but when it only accounts for 10% of the time, I think only paying R539 is worth it.

I've paid less than R1000 with 2 ISP's in the past year and neither of them has throttled me or given me any hastles.
And trust me, I made full use of the uncapped with my pc downloading on schedules around the clock and while I'm not home. And through all that I also had my XBOX online everytime I played and also no issues.
With Open Web currently.
 
Yeah I mean I switched from MWEB uncapped 384k to 1Mb in the middle of this month and already did over 100GB's worth of damage. Most people are complaining about torrent speed which is shaped during the day and is only fair considering what you pay.

Steam, PSN, Youtube and pretty much any http service has been nearly flawless.

All my multiplayer games run at decent pings and if not, a quick shout to MWEB guy on the MyADSL forums will get them on it right quick.

So in closing Openweb Gold > MWEB Big Time Surfer Uncapped > everything else.
 
i also have a 4mb mweb uncapped line, and its pretty awesome, i play online during the day and my ping is still like under 20, and download like a mad man during the night, no troubles at all with them
 
I cant afford anything more than 384k. I'm getting the free telkom deal for the 1mb line and 5gig cap for 3 months now for free. So will save that money and pay off some debt.
After that I'll keep my line with Telkom but will get a Openweb account. From all the feedback they seem good.
Some people I know complain about afrihost shaping during the day.
 
Also one of those perfectly happy with my uncapped mweb , using the 4mbps and have been with them since they launched the uncapped product. Had very few issues.

From reading the threads at mybb the issues seems to come from guys using torrents. Personally don't use torrents so haven't had those issues. I do at least 100 gig a month and never been throttled.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you do a 100gb a month without using torrents. I've heard from people using MWEB that if you download alot, but schedule ur downloads for afterhours ie 8pm - 8am you never get throttled. It probably also helps if you have a 4MB line coz if you do get throttled you might not notice! :-D
