Comic Books

i am keen to check out "Y: The Last Man". waiting for stock to come into Outer Limits. where do you guys buy your stock from? (In GP)

I get all my books from Cosmic Comics in Blackheath. They have an awesome selection in-store and they (most of the time) stock weird books that I have an interest in, like Killjoys and Harvest. Sometimes, I do get the odd graphic novel or collected edition from Takealot.

I have tried using Outer Limits, but the owner is pretty arrogant. Also no bags and boards.

I can agree on the Superman: Red Son. I'm not generally a Supe fan, but Red Son was a fantastic story.

I feel the same. Until I got a list of best Superman stories by CBR and IGN at the exact moment that the Superman sale was on. There are actually so many good stories, like For All Seasons.

Red Son is one of my favourites though.

I only go to the one in P-Town. As far as I know, they are actually the distributors for the Joburg branch. They are certainly smaller than the Joburg branch, but generally they are nicer people. But ja, no boards.

Yeah. I went in there a few times. They don't have a massive selection and they seem to be a lot more focused on card and board games than they are on comics. Basically, they have like 12 most popular new comics on the shelf every week, that's it. They do have nice longboxes that are filled with old stuff, though "whistling:

If anyone is in or around Pretoria, be sure to go check out Steampunk Comics in Centurion Lifestyle Center. New-ish shop that are trying really hard. Nice guys, smaller but good selection and pretty easy to get to.

Jeez, you've got some cool stuff on there. I've read most of them, though. The only thing that really stands out is the Immortal Iron Fist stuff. I read one or two loose and that series is awesome.

Yeah, Shane recommended that and before that I have never read it. Was pleasantly surprised :)

Yup, I went there once. Really nice guys, but the selection is really limited. I bought my first Sin City there actually (which should also be on that list). They said they can order anything you want, but I'm an instant gratification kind of guy so I'd rather just take the drive to the store that has the stock.

That being said, I agree with the notion that they should be supported. I usually try to support any small comic store.

Not sure if anyone has read the latest Asterix written and drawn by a new team. Asterix and the Picts it's called. It is worthwhile adding it to your collection.

I used to love Asterix when I was a kid, don't know what happened to all my books. Just the other day I had a thought to stock up on them again. I'll check the new one out.

Somehow managed to keep all of mine. So still have the whole collection plus a "Where is Asterix" book I found. Started collecting Tintin and Lucky Luke too now :o

i'm quite fond of Tintin. The new collated editions they came out with are a greate idea, but why the heck did they make them so tiny!! the a5 size is just not suitable for a comic that was meant to be much larger

A5 is definitely too small. The A4 size that the Asterix omnibus' have come out in is far more suitable.

For those who haven't seen it yet, Cosmic Comics are bringing Ivan Reis and Joe Prado to the store in May. You have to buy 1 of 50 tickets for R1600, which nets you the opportunity to get two of your books signed by them and a limited edition A4 sketch. I am assuming the money covers their travel costs, which is fair.

I am so in for this. Scrambling for a spare R1600 now.

Did this when Ethan van Sciver came over. Awesome opportunity for those that can afford it.
