Comic Books

Dark stuff that's excellent:
Preacher - read this at your own risk. If you are easily offended, then I guarantee that you will be, especially with religious themes.
Garth Ennis' Punisher (Garth Ennis wrote Preacher)
The Boys - I haven't read it personally, but Avenged vouches for it, so does my brother and Garth Ennis wrote it.
Swamp Thing (Written by Alan Moore) - This is easily as good as the Watchmen, unsurprising that it's written by the same guy.

Those are the best recommendations that I can give that haven't already been provided.
Great recommendations. I purposefully left Ennis out of this, because the last time I recommended his work, it backfired. Good on you, great books.

Ja, with Ennis, you either love him or you hate him. You just shouldn't go into any of those books expecting anything less that violence and plenty of irreverent humour. If either of those two things offend you, I'd suggest that you stay away from all his writing.

One thing I didn't mention, but it's also excellent and pretty dark but very different from Sin City and Watchmen, is Sandman! Everybody should read Sandman.

That's high on my list to read.

Ja Ennis is heavy with stuff like that. Just look at Herogasm.

I've just finished All out War, which was rather intense...been a bit busy tho :P

The All out war was really good! Im seriously enjoying what happens after it though! And the future covers iv seen look like we are heading for some incredible Walking Deadness!

So, for some odd reason I decided to start reading Sunfire and Big Hero 6, I guess seeing the movie prompted me to check it out. Liking it thus far.

That's something that I really want to see. Big Hero 6 left the circuit so quickly here, only shows during the day now. I'll wait for it to come out on Bluray and have a go.

I like the obscure Marvel stuff...what Big Hero 6 have you been reading? There isn't a lot available, but there are some.

Starting out with the old school Sunfire and Big Hero 6 series. I think it's a 3 issue series if I'm not mistaken.

Ag everything will be fine. I think Ultimate universe will be worse off. Well probably have a reboot on some titles.

Also if Deadpool dies, I don't think he'll be gone for too long.

I saw that. I skipped the comic event that this movie is based on, New52 Justice League is a bit mediocre IMHO. The animated movies from DC are really good though.

The movie is a good time though. I get what your saying, my biggest issue is of coherency, their pacing is way off. Also, I'm starting to get the sense that their missing story beats with some of their arcs, convolution seems to be the order of the day with them. Also, I'm starting to get annoyed with New 52 things that involve Supes TBH. I'm getting the sense that the writers really never care about the fact that Clark Kent is an investigative reporter (outside of All-Star Superman and Superman Birthright). Sure, some get and the heart and personality of Clark right, but never the wit possessed by Clark. There are good things for Supes in the New 52, but it makes it more annoying that he isn't being fully utilized as a character (especially when it has to do with JL). I have yet to read Superman Unchained though.

It's really a small issue I have with the New 52 Supes, other than that, I'm cool with it. Also, Superman - Wonder Woman is my guilty pleasure :o

Glad to see I'm not the only one put off by the new 52. Basically when that started that I lost the desire to buy/read comics. It just felt a bit off to me. Anyways, just my opinion.

Lots of the comics feel wrong to me. The only New52 title that I'm still reading is Batman (then Gotham by Midnight and Gotham Academy, but they don't really have anything to do with New52). They handled so many things wrong. Rubbish Justice League, Rubbish Superman, Rubbish Teen Titans, Rubbish Lantern books, cancelling All-Star Western, etc. They are actively trying to get me to stop reading their books.

Unchained started well, but I stopped getting it. I should get back on that.

I'll admit that Batman - Superman is actually enjoyable :)

Jip, same sentiments. After reading one issue with a very young but arrogant Superman I was "Meh, not for me". Glad I got plenty of trades with all my favourite story lines though. It's something you can come back to over the years and still enjoy.
