Comic Books

I too was... Until our Geyser burst and water ran all over my comic collection, and my trading cards...

I have a real fear of this happening - my collection is close to where the geyser sits in the roof. Maybe I should rethink its location.

Not maybe... But these days your geyser probably has a "drip tray" with an outlet to outside... If that's the case your fine...

I get so confused with the X-Men comics and where to start... There seem to be so many different X-Men Series, could someone recommend a good starting point?

@Ichigo, It will definitely work... I use mine all the time....

Hang on....

So you joined yesterday, and you almost have as much posts as me. (Oh wait sorry that will never be possible). But anyway the point I am trying to get across is that you should stop spamming mot or tom coz it's not nice.... I will neg rep every post you've made... And you won't like it...

So far as I have seen, he isn't spamming. He's posting a lot, yes, but he's contributing reasonably well to every topic I've seen so far.

Thanks StaggerLee, appreciate it ;)

@Cara, I have tried to make all my posts on topic and tried to add value to every conversation iv posted in...

@Nemesis, Yes Iv still got loads, but alot of them are damaged... Luckily they were in plastic sleeves so most of them are fine...

Mmm I would like a list sometime. Looking to complete a few of mine, if you don't mind.

this is not really a topic i was too interested in before, but my wife was awesome enough to buy me a Marvel Unlimited subscription for Christmas! having access to 13 000 digital comics was instantly fantastic and daunting. not knowing where to begin i did a few googles and headed into Civil War, followed by World War Hulk (i recently saw the Planet Hulk animated movie and figured it would be a good place to start).

my problem so far is mostly that the stories tend to jump between characters. the Marvel Universe is quite large and they do seem to tempt you to buy other series as well to continue a side story... to make sure i dont miss anything or that i dont stray too far, i am following the Marvel book called:

Marvel Backlist Chronology #1

i also found a wealth of online reading guides, so let me know if you guys are interested in what to read and in what order, if you too are overwhelmed by the vast amount of comics currently available!

now if only Marvel want to fix their app for Android so that i can have more than one offline comic at a time :)

As for the whole digital/real-thing discussion goes, I am firmly remain a real-thing fan. Admittedly, there are some things that I am willing to read digitally (tablet only, I hate reading them on PC screens), but generally I buy hard-copies. There's nothing quite like the smell, and the effort of trying not to crack the spine too much :P

Yup. Some things really are just better in the physical form. New comic smell FTW.

I would lose my shit if that happens. Mine are in a loft.

if the writing is close to this I sure will

Yeah, the writing (and Immonen's art) is really solid. I'm going to get this in trade form from now on, but might get a little behind with the new stuff.

Are you referring only to the current books?

Ok here is what you do to get the core story:

Get the following books:
Prelude to Schism (single digital issue)
Schism (trade that explains the X-Men split)
X-Men: Regenesis (Single issue)
Wolverine and the X-Men -----------------------------> Ongoing which Starts at the same time as Uncanny X-Men
Uncanny X-Men -----------------------------------> Ongoing which starts at the same time as Wolverine and the X-Men
All-New X-Men
X-Men.

The last 4 start dipping into each other near the end, which is fine.

Then, a new Amazing X-Men just started now.

There are other books, like Astonishing X-Men and X-Men Legacy, that only vaguely has anything to do with the main X-Men theme. But they are still pretty good.

Down, Cara. Sit. Good dog. :D

Thanks! This helps a hell of a lot! For some reason I actually started with Schism... And i really enjoyed that! So il get prelude to schism and then go onto X-Men: Regenesis and keep following ur list...

Just check, All-New and Amazing are becoming the core titles, Wolverine and the X-Men is ending next month, then a new series is starting in March with a new creative team. So get the trades and you should be caught up relatively quickly.

Must say, havent seen the comic thread this busy in ages, if ever. What else comic related do you guys/gals collect?

I still think the online purchases are the best, especially if you have a tablet... They quite a lot cheaper, and you dont stress about them getting damaged...

You can always get them through mail order..

Hope so did not work on other sites I have tried

Yeah, they don't commonly support bank transfers. With all the modern payment methods that are supported, bank transfers do seem a bit outdated and perhaps a little expensive (especially between international banks).

Yeah, I'm loving it. Normally, its you, me and StaggerLee (see what I did there?)

EDIT: Don't forget Venom. And the occasional Dee.

Hehe. It is pretty cool... Normally it is just us, and Venom pops up here too.

I'm mainly into the books themselves. I used to collect original releases, but then I got busy and stopped going overboard with that. Now it's just trade paperbacks and books. I also mentioned earlier that I've got a few statues. That's the limit of my collection though.

Do any of you read the walking dead comics? They are unbelievable in my opinion! Robert Kirkman, Author, also makes Invincible, which is also a great super hero comic...

If you like the walking dead there is another comic series called Revival... Iv just started reading it, its pretty decent, but not amazing imo...

Did anyone read Marvel Zombies? Because that was quite a journey!

I have read every single book that you mentioned in your post. Granted, I am only at Vol2 of TWD and issue 60 of Invincible.

The Walking Dead is something that you should probably read before you watch the show, because you can get lank confused. Really good book, I just would have like Tony Moore to keep doing the art past the first volume. Not that there is anything wrong with Charlie Adlard's work, mind you.

Invincible is probably the best superhero themed book that is currently in print, nuff said.

I devoured Revival. One of the most original horror books available. Seely and Norton FTW. If you want more Norton, be sure to check out his web comic called Battlepug.

I loved Marvel Zombies, but it did get a bit much after a while. There was this one awesome moment between the Hulk and Silver Surfer, though. :D

Ha ha! Ok your turn to recommend me some then! Because obviously we have great taste!

Marvel Zombies had some incredible parts to it! but it was extremely long! Loved the bit with The Hulk and Silver Surfer!
How do i do spoilers? I need spoilers!
