Cricket Thread - not the bugs but the buggers playing it :)

Glad you revived this thread coz im a huge cricket fan! And just in time for us to build up to the Aussies series over here!

Iv heard alot about what they speak of in that article... They are basically saying that the countries that generate the most revenue for the ICC should get more money from the ICC. So because those 3 countries pretty much always have full stadiums, and huge ratings on tv, they are saying they deserve more of the "pie".

I think the fact that they forget is that South Africa is the number 1 ranked Test team in the world. This should be enough to get us a seat at the table for the discussions in my opinion. But it remains a huge issue that we dont fill our stadiums... If you watch some of the Ram Slam T20 it illustrates how poor the crowd turn out in SA is... The recent matches over December were not well attended at all... Im not sure why as South Africans we dont go to the stadiums more, but it is a problem for SA Cricket.

I expected the series agains India to be a very well supported and attended series, but after all the controversy in the build up, and the squashed in series against Pakistan (at home) i think people were just not interested. India have become the Bully of International Cricket, stipulating when and when not (mainly when not) we use the DRS to suit them... Its appalling that they have so much sway in international cricket.

Hopefully the series against the Aussies will get some Hype from the media and get the population behind our guys and get the stadiums full! I know il be at Centurion! :D

The fans need to start supporting test cricket more what a shocker that Jaque Kallis retires and the stadium is empty disgusting.We are the no 1 team in the world the team deserve's the support.Yet our average rugby team gets full stadiums.

Not which average rugby team you are referring to, but I do not know of any of our teams who fill stadia. Newlands probably gets closest with King's Park and Loftus next. Apart from that I cannot think of any others that fill stadia. :confused:
 
He is free to play the full IPL now though... nice payday coming through for him, I suspect he will now be tempted by the various T20 comps around the world now. Dangerous player and a loss for them no doubt.
 
Wait didn't the IPL finish last year as far as i know it won't be running this year it was the final season last year, or am i mistaken

You are mistaken. The IPL will continue as long as there is a buck to be made. You may be thinking of the Champions Trophy.
 
Interestingly CSK haven't retained Albie Morkel who is usually a stellar performer for them, also think Quentin de Kock will fetch a decent price after his good performances in ODIs.

I seem to always lose interest in the IPL because it just takes so long

Hoping the Dolphins can beat the Titans and get into the Ram Slam T20 final, been doing quite well this year
 
KP is a fantastic cricketer, but he has plagued that team with politics since he joined it... He is so self centered and arrogant its a joke... When he first started playing for England i was all like why didnt he play for us etc, but im glad he didnt... he caused such a rift in the English team it was difficult for them to play as a unit...

The IPL is far from over... Those Indians are so into their cricket, and it generates such a huge income for the players that im sure it will keep going year after year... But i agree its too long... needs to be a shorted tournament, it just takes to long...

Gona be an interesting game, But i dont see the Dolphins beating the Titans... The Titans are playing really well at the moment, and the Dolphins are coming off a loss to the Lions... (who looses to the lions this season??? :p)
 
Can't say much about KP, he was a tit that got lucky a few times. Not really an all rounder so he is no real loss. That whole England team needs a revamp, kick that Joe Root kid to the curb as well. It is like the proteas persisting with this Faf knob, talentless tool that gets lucky sometimes, but look at his performance in most formats.

I dont think KP was ever thought of as a genuine all rounder, but he is/was a bloody good batsman... I also get annoyed with Faf, and Miller not making more of their chances, but they still young and need to grow into there game... I cant really think of anyone in the domestic set up that should be there ahead of them?
 
Well KP was good for a while, but he lost it long ago. And he just has that kind of face you want to run over. I have a major kak in Faf, he is arrogant and not really a good batsmen. When SA needs him he fails and Miller as well. They should remove Faf and get guys in like Van Jaarsveld, Delport, R. Hendricks. Faf is not that young, same age as AB. And they should stop giving chances to Mr. Play on wickets Henry Davids. If you look at the domestic players and the proteas, a lot of changes can be made. The problem is the selection in SA is horrible, Andrew Hudson is a pratt. They should be allowing the captain and coach to help in selection.

If the new guys are not given chances in the international scene then how will they ever grow or be selected. But they persist with players that underperform constantly.

Kallis bowled like a champ... Pity he couldn't follow it up with the bat...

Yup we (Dolphins) looked strong with the ball in the beginning, wickets falling quickly, then when we brought the spinners on it went to shit, made for an awesome ending though.

Want to see what Miller can do for SA.

seriously good to see the dolphins finally win a competition, they have been good all season... also good to see 3 guys I schooled with in the winning team.
