Cricket Thread - not the bugs but the buggers playing it :)

In the current team, I would rather have Faf as the captain. AB has got too much to do as keeper and batsmen. Great player and he'd always be No. 4 or 5 in my team list, but I do not think he is the person to captain the side.

Ha! Another! My wonderful missus was also born there. I haven't had the pleasure of travelling the country yet.

I am also hoping they play well. Even if they do not beat India, I really want to see them grow in strength. Just too many mediocre scores and not enough knuckling down.

Yeah SA is full of ex Zimbo's, they used to be pretty good before the massive exodus of players, just nice to know that a Zimbo coaches the English :)
Well playing against a team of India or SA calibre gives a lot of experience so it shouldn't be too long before they start playing better and getting more game time with top teams

Anybody keeping tabs on the SA A vs Aus A game. David Warner batted extremely well yesterday nearly making a double hundred.
I don't know why he isn't playing in the Ashes games.

Good question. I think there are too much internal fighting and hunger for power in the Aussie team and admin.

I still think he is battling to shake off the ODI/ T20 specialist label.

Flower is probably the only thing I like about the English team ;)

After Warner belted Joe Root at 2am in a pub after the Aussies got klapped in an ODI by the Poms, he was temporarily banned.

I cannot remember how long the ban was, but all was forgiven.

The new coach felt that Warner needed some match practice before he could return to the team and was flown to play in this series.

His first game against Zim was terrible and got to pathetic scores (for a player of his calibre - although there weren't many decent scores in that game by anyone else). He has definitely put his hand up with the near double ton. Good strike rate too.

After this performance I doubt there will be any reason why he won't be drafted back into the starting eleven straight away. Also, I recall that there was talk that he would be coming into bat at 5 or 6 to take the place of Michael Hussey. Given opportunity and no more throwing handbags in late night brawls, he should make the place his own.

I needed to be dropped - Warner

David Warner has admitted he needed the "kick up the bum" of being suspended and ultimately dropped from Australia's Test side after his punch at Joe Root in a Birmingham pub. Warner's ban over the incident cost him his place in the first two Investec Tests at Trent Bridge and Lord's but he is firmly back in contention for a recall in the third Test at Old Trafford after his 193 during the ongoing match against South Africa A in Pretoria.

Warner was sent on the Australia A tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa after being left out of the Trent Bridge Test as the Australian camp sought a way to get him some game time following his suspension. His punch at Root on a night out during the Champions Trophy ultimately led to the sacking of coach Mickey Arthur, but for Warner personally, losing his place in the national side after playing 19 consecutive Tests was a wake-up call.

"Sitting on the sidelines and copping that punishment and not being selected it was a thing that I needed," Warner said from South Africa. "I definitely needed a kick up the bum. It was my own fault the incident that happened. My job was then to support our players, support the rest of the group and do everything I could to help them prepare for the games. I did that and I know the other guys on the tour did the same thing. We've all been working very hard."

The Proteas has just one an ODI for the first time in 19 years against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. The last time we beat them in their own country was in 1993...

Could their win have anything to do with AB being in the field and not behind the stumps. He is able to captain better from there. Also the off side cordon of JP, AB and Faf is superb.

Not looking too bad at the moment. 54/1 after 10 overs. I suspect the news of Dale Steyn playing a small role in the new Adam Sandler movie might have inspired the team :D

Photo in the newspaper of Sandler wearing a Proteas shirt made me lol more than his last 3 movies.

They are at the moment 149/3...they had a bit of a slow patch after Amla and AB's wickets, but seems a bit better. But looking at the wicket I think the they have to at least look at getting around 250

Another humiliating loss. Not just the game but the series too. :(

Yeah I am still sticking to my 4 - 1 to SL, hope not but SA really needs to pull their socks up in the ODI format if they want to be a well rounded side. A bit humiliating saying number one in the world when its only in tests. I actually wonder if this is a new record, for a team to be number one in tests but number 5 in ODI

World Cup draw

Pool A England, Australia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand, two qualifiers

Pool B South Africa, India, Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland, qualifier

Just read that AB is taking the blame but I mean I don't think he should of been captain anyway. Too much responsibility already as it is.
