CS:GO official discussion thread

Good news! Operation Bravo has been extended until 5 February! Going for the gold coin!

The 99c promo? I got it a couple of weeks ago, you got to play Op Bravo maps and and get a certain amount of wins to level up the coin.

The problem beggins here, the Silver coin requires you to play and win 5 competitive matches IN THE BRAVO MAPS and have 10 hour of game IN THE BRAVO MAPS.

The Gold Coin is reached when you have 15 competitive wins and 30 hours of game in the brave maps too as you already know.

I really did love playing this with my brothers, but like Dota the community that frequent it just ruined the experience for me.

I prefer to LAN it when i can now.

If you guys want to get into the competitive side of CS:GO I suggest you play pickups instead of matchmaking. There are no local matchmaking servers in SA and playing competitively with 200 ping is not ideal. Join us on #gopickup on shadowfire.org. The competitive community is quite active. You might get shouted at. Here's a guide to joining the IRC channel: http://counterstrikeza.wordpress.com/irc/ (just use #gopickup instead of #pickup)...
The DC guys (pretty much the same squad from the 1.6 days) also wrote a nice guide to setting up CS:GO.

Unfortunately not. There's a bot on the pickup channel that does do rankings though. I really wish there were matchmaking servers in SA. The advantage with the IRC system is that we have 128tick servers with custom maps etc. One of the guys is developing a website though where we'll be able to organise competitive matches and finally throw IRC away. A lot of ex-1.6 and ex-source players are still active. We have a very dedicated core competitive CS community.

I haven't played enough CS: GO to be competitive at it. However I love the idea of buying weapons in game, as it allows for fairer competition. (Random input :p)

So how will i rank up the badge then?

Haha, oh well. Try using the in-game server browser and join the Intoxicated servers. They generally are of better quality and have extra server side settings with different maps. Unfortunately in SA you won't be able to make use of a lot of the extra CS:GO features like matchmaking. However, just the gameplay is enough to keep us hooked.

Ye i already play some pickups using the irc and i am loving it :D

Lol. I'm confused now. So you can't join the competitive gameplay in SA?
You can use the matchmaking service in CS:GO to play in a competitive environment, but you'll play on international servers with a high ping, which gives you a major disadvantage. You can however play in a competitive environment with the South African community using IRC...
