Dark Souls 2 Thread

Been playing this game for a while now, I'm a level 70 Bandit, currently about to fight the ruin sentinels. I think I need to re-spec my character since I spent quite a lot of points on magic (which I barely use). I have a few questions about this game though

What are invasions and is it still possible to get invaded if you don't play online?

In order to equip heavier shields and equipment without slowing down, do you need to level up the Vitality attribute? And do the items in your inventory affect your speed or is it just what you have equipped?

How do you summon an NPC to help with boss fights?

Immensely enjoying this game, as mentioned before the level design is amazing and definite GoTY material:)

Hey Robin. Yes invasions are always possible, the game is permanently online. If you don't want to play online then disconnect from the net.
Vitality will increase your maximum load you can equip. I haven't seen noticed any change on the amount of items in your inventory. If you equip an item and exceeds about 70% of your max load it will slow you down in terms of running and rolling/dodging, but again only when equipped, I try keep mine around 60% being a DEX character I rely on my speed and stamina.
Only certain NPC's can be summoned and their summon signs are in certain locations, best to check FextraLife wiki on that.

Glad you're enjoying it and hope I helped.

Good luck dude! Ruin Sentinels are near impossible without help from one, preferably 2 real life players.

You HAVE to play this game online to truly enjoy it! Getting invaded can be annoying but some of your most thrilling moments come during pvp sessions.

Equip Royal Soldier ring which will help with weight load. It's in secret room in No Man's Wharf

I just finished it what a journey. loved it.Started ng+ and got my ass whipped within ten seconds of starting lol.

Hmmm... I was considering using a bonfire ascetic, but now you make me rethink things.

What's you total play time with that character and what level did you finish on?

I played about 120 hours and my character was 170+ but I do play slowly and I belong to the champions covenant so I can not summon people to help me out so it was really hard.I would hold of using the bonfire ascetic. It is such a awesome game I can see my self playing this for the rest of the year.Oh and I do not use guides they just take the joy away from discovering something on your own.

Yeah, I completely agree with guides, I'm also going through blind. I do summon occasionally but only when hitting a brick wall (we can't all be as hardcore as you =P), plus it is a mechanic in the game so I don't using it when I have to.
My point on using an ascetic is not really to make the enemies in that area harder, but more to see the different drops and attack styles. They say the game changes completely with NG+, with different drops, attack styles, etc.

I think using the bonfire ascetic does make the enemies stronger and more agro I used one in a certain area and I now dread going there in my ng+ because it will now be bonfire level 3.Think wisely before using the bonfire ascetic it could bite you in the ass big time lol.

Managed to take down the Old Iron King as well as the Scorpion thing in the Shaded Ruins last night. :D

I still have to go after the Belfry Gargoyles again, but since it's optional I'm in no real hurry to get invaded again.

Ng+ is throwing some nasty surprises my way,the fight starts here.

Hahaha... Nice! Always good to expect that from FromSoft.

What you guys know about the Name-Engraved Ring?
I read something today that when using the ring it doesn't take into account SL and soul memory, also that it has limited uses per deity?!

Again, not sure how certain any of this is, but it's been working for me.

So I made it to The Gutter (I think) last night. I am seriously considering leaving the game until I can get the PC version. When I heard there was a level in DS2 similar to Blighttown I didn't expect it to be this bad. Fuck, I hate this place. I stopped playing DS1 originally because of Blighttown and I might do the same with DS2 now. Don't know what From was thinking doing another area like this. I don't think I've ever hated another area in any game as much as this.

It is not that big a section as blightown was huge and there are no framerate drops.I breezed through that area just use the torch you can do it.The next section after that my god that is frustrating.

It's not the framerate but the endless scaffolding that bothers me. Add to that the fact that it is now pitch black as well which makes me really hate it. I messed around for about 30 - 45 minutes there yesterday looking for the exit, but I couldn't find anything. The enemies are pretty easy to handle but it's that god forsaken scaffolding that I can't handle. I'll see if I feel like giving it another go after work tomorrow.

Wow wow wow.... I just keep continuously being surprised by this game, it's really amazing.

@Wlad - that's quite unfortunate, one of the areas I think everyone hated about DS was Blighttown. Though at least there there's no huge frame rate drops to 3fps, so hopefully I enjoy it more so.

I have just reached SL75 after defeating Lost Sinner, and wow, almost 3 hours to defeat. Being a DEX character I was kinda suffering. Summoned a mate and we tried twice. Then with myself, my mate and another random we finally fulfilled our duties to each other's worlds. Only after all of that did I see the NPC summon sign =P

Loving this game....

Please tell me how guys coped with this fsking mist section, I can't see these guys and it's infuriating me to no end.....

Haha, that I could handle, but not the Gutter. :p Just stick to the left edge of the forest. Eventually the path will start to narrow and you will be out of there. There is also a merchant with some pretty useful gear near the end of the forest, also on the left hand side. I didn't even get attacked once when I went through their, saw the ghosts but I just ran for it. Pretty sure I missed some items but I could always go back later. A torch also helps a little bit to spot the ghost, just keep looking behind you.

Aah.... Missed the merchant then. I stuck to the right and just kept hauling ass, came across a few chests, got the Old Sun Ring there. Now facing some predator looking mofos and keep getting cursed, two hits and I'm dead.

Not sure I know which enemies you are referring to here, the only enemies I remember cursing me are those toad looking things and the pots with faces on. Is it those lion looking things with the axes? There is also a giant curse toad in that area? A tip for that area (if it's the one I'm thinking of) is to get the ring of whispers (not sure where I got, one of the merchants sell it IIRC) and then go talk with the man scorpion in that area (with the ring equipped). You will then be able to summon him to help you with the boss in that area. Those enemies are pretty tough though, even at SL110 they still kill me in two shots. Luckily I'm still rocking a drangleic shield (which blocks 100% physical damage) which helps a bit.

Yeah those lion dreadlocks guys, thought they were cursing me too, along with those jars.

But busy working through The Depths now as well. I don't think it's as bad a area as Blight Town was, frustrating yes. But what's gets to me is that they base this area off an area in DkS. It's almost exactly the same, so many components that remind me of it. Not very imaginative FromSoft! Not very original either, and that's what gets to me more.

You are right. They do also curse you, they've just never hit me before so I didn't know it, lure them out one at a time and own them, lol.

I have thankfully made it through the Gutter, although I will dread this place for as long as I play this game. The next area seems to be a lot worse though, but at least there is no scaffolding in sight any more.

I have, once again, skipped 2 entire areas of the game. When I killed the boss in Shaded Ruins I went back to Majula and down the hole, never realising that Doors of Pharos was right there. Went back there now and all I can say is I am really glad I joined the Rat King Covenant when I was in Grave of Saints. It really has its uses in this area...
