Dark Souls

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.................... here I go again.

Another fix has begun, I get to work and all I can do is think Dark Souls, wikis, stories, builds, thoughts, etc.

Not looking forward to Dark Root Basin again, along with Blighttown (may even skip this one).

I first went to New Londo Ruins (bad choice - given my level). Backtracked and instead went to Blighttown, not much fun either (initially), but managed to eventually make it through. I really want to start DS either from over, or from where I left off (probably in Anor Londo).

I tried this now that GFWL is gone. Loaded it, mashed some buttons, got confused and quit. How the hell am I supposed to know what "B" is? It sure as hell isn't "B" on the keyboard.

hahaha... yar, not fun with a keyboard. The game simply is not built for keyboard and mouse. Alternatively you can use DSfix which will allow you to rebind.

Hmm... I've got two Fire Keeper souls which I have used, one from Undead Burg and the other from Anor Londo Ruins (took a suicide run). Will probably defeat Bell Gargoyle tonight. Then thinking of making my way into Valley of Drakes to take the back entrance (or exit) to Blighttown to then take on Quelaag.

Wondering if I should attempt Capra - I have never actually beaten him to be honest.

Edit: What builds have you guys gone with or aiming for?

Capra is a Noob, he doesn't even stand up to Quelaagen :P Kill the hounds first, then pwn him.

I focus on DEX.

I just can't get used to that darned confined space when fighting him.
That and Dragon Slayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough were the bane of my existence.

With Capra, I head up the stairs on the left and do drop-attack damage on whatever is unlucky enough to be below me at that point. Eventually it's just a lot of dodging and slicing. He fights like a Black Knight, to me, which I find easy to beat.

Smough and Ornstein is almost impossible if you don't kill Ornstein first and kill him fast. Smough is easy to dodge, while a Giant Ornstein is almost impossible to dodge.

I am playing as a tank great sword and shield and normal sized sword and shield. I managed to cut the drakes tail off and got the sword but fuck me Its bugging me to kill the damn thing.

I am in dark root I think its called. Tried to do lando ruins after ringing the bell but I ran out of curses.(I have the ghost sword but can't block without the curse)

Killed that creature by the blacksmith wasn't hard. I love fighting the black knights.
I some how ended up in the valley of drakes and grabed the dragon shield and that sword but that drake woke up and killed me lol.

But really enjoying this game.

I think I finished them off on the second or third try (nervous as shit, I might add).

Really hate that(those) Boss(es).

I'm really wanting to get back into DS again, DA:I has me too busy right now though.

I honestly don't understand the mechanics in this game. What the hell am I supposed to do?

Well I read a thing that the creator use to read western fantasy and he said he only understood bits of it and said thats what he had in mind for the game. Thats why you only get bits of it :p bloody japs.

He wanted the player to create his own story basically.

Basically exploration with the intent of utter failure. The game temps you with progress as well as it tries to hinder it. Personally I spent about 20 minutes with the game then gave it a pass. A few months later I thought: "What the hell, let's give it a shot!". I was hooked.

The game rewards you with simple progress. Be it reaching the next safe point or finally beating that boss, it's brilliant.

Dude! If you ever need help I'll gladly join you on TS or Skype and talk about this game for hours. I even get joy out of other people experiences from this game. It's easier over voice/voip than text.

Do not go down the wrong path. This game is the epitome of non-hand-holding.
Google walkthroughs, I had to - a lot!

Naah, don't use walkthroughs!

Yes and no. It's true that Miyazaki could barely read english and thus could only make out certain thing and loved the western culture. Thus when reading a story he could only piece together certain things which never made sense, so he let his mind fill in the gaps. Same kinda applies to DS. The lore is so deep and so many holes in it, which allows yourself (and the community) to fill in the gaps and speculate. Again, I could talk for hours about he story/lore.

This is exactly it. Once you get stuck into it and understand the mechanics, it becomes so damn rewarding and enjoyable despite all the dying, I don't even get frustrated by dying any more.

Edit: Thought I should mention, the only reason I've never finished this on PC is I found this game out by myself (and recommendations) and thus had NO help or references. That and a mixture of an Dragon Slayer and Executioner and hackers really put me off it. A while down the line I moved to PS3.

I went to New Londo Ruins (at an early level) thinking it was an okay idea; I was slaughtered. Had to Google a better plan of action.

I've been trying to figure it out for over 3 hours now and I still have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. I've been stuck in the first area after the "Tutorial" forever.

Dark Souls isn't meant to hold your hand and this is what puts a lot of people off. It will allow you to go to fairly end game locations from the get go. The way you want to go is from Firelink Shrine bonfire, go past the well and up the stairs toward the aqueduct and into Undead Burg.

You have 3 choices then:

If you face away from the bonfire with the knight to your left, do one of the following:

Follow the Primary Route:
  • Run forward and to the right until you find stairs, there should be 4 hollows to fight there, beat them.
  • To the right of the bottom of the stair you can jump onto the foundation of the bridge, do this, carefully (as with everything else in the game) and move through to the far right, here you'll find a corpse with a valuable ring.
  • Head back up the stairs and defeat the rat to your right. Head on further through and fight through a large amount of hollows until you find the next bonfire.

New Londo:
  • With the bonfire behind you and the knight to your left, turn 180 and off to your right a little will be a path down, follow it carefully until you reach an elevator. Take it down to New Londo.
  • There are no harsh enemies here, but you can kill the sulking hollows there anyway.
  • If you explore thoroughly you'll find quite a few useful items including a faith weapon.
  • If you explore even further you'll find a back route to the games worst areas, once you're in a valley or walking along a plank over water in a dark area, go back - you're not ready yet.

The Graveyard:
  • Standing facing the same way, head left to the graveyard.
  • You'll encounter skeletons who are pretty fierce early on due to their flurry attack.
  • Play it patiently and beware of the large skeletons.
  • You can easily beat them with some patience and a drop attack if you lure them back to the stair where you enter the graveyard.

TS will be super helpful actually, lol.
