It's a lot like minecraft in that you need to make your own fun. People who need objectives given to them will probably get bored.
I've played arma, it was not fun. Maybe if they properly use the mechanics it could be, but arma is a combat simulator and not really a game...The more I read about this, the better it sounds. The games are just a bit expensive, though. It's going to cost me R250 to play this mod, and then I might have major latency issues.![]()
Not sure if I would call this the ultimate zombie mod. The biggest thing that destroys it for me is the other players on the servers.
MR DELIGHTFUL (a padre) is the more sociopathic bandit in our little family and he's made a sport, an art of kneecapping people.
Basically, shoot a man through the legs progressively until he runs out of morphine, and then leave him to prone away. Follow him, and wait until he calls for help, then gun down anyone who comes to assist him. The trick is to never actually kill the guy with the broken legs.
He likes to call the game "sneaky slug."
I was at cherno and saw a flare at the church, I zoomed in with my DMR and saw atleast 7 survivors taking refuge inside. I thought that if I went near they'd probably shoot me, so I threw in a smoke grenade to confuse them, and then threw in a frag grenade which killed atleast 4. I then sniped off the rest.. Got some juicy loot!
So I'm still very new to the mechanics of both Arma2 and DayZ, so please in advance excuse any stupid mistakes I might have done in my doings of this short but energetic tale.
I spawn, it's night out, and I throw a few flares. The red beam of light bounces as it hits the road illuminating a sense of peace and I know the 50 or so meters ahead are clear of the undead. In my travels I come across a new player as well, we agree to team up at least for the time and make it a goal to find somewhere to hold up until other survivors come by to team up with before leaving for places unknown. We came across a town, no, I wouldn't say a town, at least from what I saw it came more as a village.
We should of taken the bodies of other players as a warning, but curiosity kills the cat I suppose. We do a bit of looting, going through buildings, in one I find an Enfield, in the other we find some food, painkillers, all sorts of goodies. Moving northward we find another body, 1 zed sits patrolling the area around him, he is dispatched quickly with my revolver. My partner proceeds to loot the corpse while I cover him, this is when it started...
One zed makes it self known as it sprints toward us, wanting to test my enfield I take aim and fire off a round, little did I know of the sound it would create. From the darkness, six became twelve, and twelve became fifteen, and fifteen became a number I didn't stick around to count. Exclaiming "RUN!" to my comrade, we made haste through the village gates, running through coordiors of warehouses. Along the way we lost eachother, I broke from the combines of the villa and hit the ocean waves. For 2 long minutes I awaited the oncoming horde expecting, for 2 minutes I heard various gunshots whom I could only assume was my comrade defending himself.
After awhile I stood, and cautiously approached one of the flares in an attempt to see if perhaps, just maybe, my friend killed them all and was awaiting my return. Turning past a corner to my left, I looked in horror at something I dare not forget lest I lose my mind to the dreaded virus itself.
Feasting upon my friend was at least 15 of the beasts, all crouched and hunching. Being one of my first games I had never seen so many zombies together, I wish I had gotten a screenshot but my mind was elsewhere at the time. I knew I was going to die, so taking my enfield I tried dispatching them in an attempt to redeem my friend (and biding I survive loot his corpse). Sadly, without any flares, I quickly was lost in darkness and had surcom to the teeth of the snarling white eyes.
Just happened in game. Anyone else have a good story? Doesn't have to be long, just I think I'd enjoy reading some other experiences people had.

Sounds interesting, but what's the lag like? Don't want to spend $20 on the game just to have it lag too much to play properly.
There are some seriously interesting factors in this mod that makes it awesome, my problem with it is that you'll find stupid players. People who think it's a deathmatch. That's what puts me off.
Hmm, sounds alright then. Bought the game yesterday night, but I'm on 384 so it's going to take a while to download unless I can get the files somewhere closer.
I'll see if I can't download the retail game's files at the university tonight and then paste it into the steam folders. Should drastically cut down on the amount Steam has to download.
Hrm... So, we still seem to have our MWEB server. Not sure how long that's going to stick around for, but it could be worth testing with, at least.
Reading through this thread, it seems like they're still playing around with the dedicated server stuff. Is there anyone who feels like going through the ball-ache of organising all the necessary files, authorisation and information for us to get that set up?
