Decent GFX card and PSU for about 2k?

Hmmm.... as far as my research has turned up, the 6850 and the 5850 are about on par with eachother, (if not, the 5850 is a little better) but the 5850 has more room for overclocking.... Bigger numbers should mean better parts right? apparently not this time. Silly and confusing naming system >:|

To make space for other products... branding is very important and they could just want to change some mindsets about items.

Also, they have moved to AMD branding. So it could be that they just wanted to have a shift in paradigm.

True hey, but changing branding or marketing strategies could of course have a negative affect on consumers. Many people get confused by the change in numbering. You often find reviewers explaining the numbering of the new cards. As far the budget, I would say the GTX550 is your best bet. Nvidia cards seem to be the best choice at the moment, in my opinion.

Yep, everyone I know is confused with the new numbering system and somewhat weary of trying them out as a result.

As it turns out, my friend has come up with more cash than ever and refuses to be outdone by my pc and is therefore getting an Asus GTX560Ti DirectCUII to match mine :P

Thanks for your help everyone :)

Also, just out of interest, what is the Ti stand for? I just told him don't get the non Ti cuz Ti is teh bezt but i don't know anything about it :wtf:

The numbers have been shifted.... 5970 ~ 6990 etc

In fact, I believe its more like this: 68xx series roughly = 57xx series
69xx series roughly = 58xx series
Also what you said darth
that means if you were shopping for a 5850/5870 back then but decided to wait(me), the same (but better performance) will be had by the 6950/6970 respectively(roughly)

Thats why the 5850 is better (little bit) than 6850, as you said. This is because you are comparing incorrect cards. Yes unaware customers that had the 5850, and went and bought the 6850, (fanboyism? or i can do the new thing?) are stuck with the equivalent of a 5750, which is a heck of a downgrade.

Why it is always good to let other people test products enough for you and get them when they age a bit and you have had time to do your research. Rebeltech was the one to move me off the 6XXX path.

Thanks Apocalypse

Anyone know what the Ti is all about yet? Google isn't providing me any answers...

i'm not sure on the actual Word(s) Ti. My Guess would be titanium...

The effect though is that they are manufacturer overclocked.

I think at 2k the 6870 is your bet ATM...

i own one, buying that card wont leave you dissapointed at all!
Fact 5870 is only just faster than the 6870 yet the 5870 atm costs abit more from most distro's
the 6870 on games like BC2 are only about 1.5 fps on average behind the 5870
the only way i say go for the 5870 is if the price drops level or below the 6870...

Also true but I feel if you get a decent 5870 (ASUS,MSI,Sapphire) card that you can OC then you are half way ahead.....
