Diablo 3 Installation Problems and Fixes

Hi All

During the Open Beta weekend, it took me almost a full day to get the game to work, struggling with things such as the "Updating Install Files" stuck at 70%, getting errors on login, etc.

Hopes that they would be fixed when the full game came along were short lived. I again ran into the "Updating Install Files" thing getting "stuck", only this time it would complete the update, and then revert, and do it again. This happened several times before I cancelled the process.

I started looking around on the internet for solutions.
The first page I got was: http://www.keenandgraev.com/2012/05/12/diablo-3-stuck-updating-setup-files-fix/

I used fixes 1, 2 and 3, just to be safe. Please note that, after using Fix 3, I restarted my PC. I would suggest deleting all Diablo 3 related content on your pc (which most likely relates to the Beta) before trying to install Diablo 3. I explored the DVD and changed the compatibility mode on the installed to Windows XP SP3, and also selected Run as Admin (even though I am the Admin, just in case).

After Finally getting my game to actually proceed to the install screen, after selecting my install folder, the installed tuned me: "Could not install. Invalid installation options.". So I closed the installer and ran it again, this time it worked for me.

Then, during installation (downloading) I got another error stating that there is a corrupt file. The solution to this problem is to delete the said file (it gives you the file path in the error message). Then run the Launcher as Admin and also in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. This worked for me.

I finally made it into D3 (after getting several Error 37's upon login) and am now going to start my Barbarian. I hope someone can benefit from what I wrote here. If not, Google is your friend.

Happy Gaming!

Thanks for the info, kind sir. If I run into problems I'll check back here.

BTW, how long did your game install? I started at 02h03 and it's only on 14% installed now (02h22). Normal?

yeah its normal pretty much same timings as me, however mine jumped ahead and is now on 69%

In the game now. One question; do I have to click the Upgrade button? I have not entered my serial key anywhere yet.

Should have bought a mac, mine installed without issue and in under 1min. Now if only the servers where online.

Diablo 3 don't like my PC.... The beta download perma crashed due to a agent error. This time around I have the disk... pop it in and 5% in the install fails -_- File could not be opened... gawd... took out my work laptop installed fine. Will rather just copy the files over tonight.

Yeah, the Diablo III installer is piss poor on windows, which is rather surprising given what game this is. Thanks for the tips though, I'm quite sure I'm going to have one or more of these issues when I eventually start installing it...

My download was fine, got home yesterday afternoon, ran the installer and 30 mins later I was looking at the login screen. . . .

If what I typed sounds a bit confusing, I'm sorry. It was early morning and I was dead tired. And yes, the installation takes quite a while. The biggest wait for me was due to the installer downloading stuff every now and then during installation.

I put in leave for today, so I'll be playing all day. :D

The file was corrupt, 30 odd megs into the download of the updated setup file.
I let it run last night for nothing

Now I am trying to reinstall.

/Takes off shoe and throws it

Ok this is going to sound really dumb, I can't get into the game coz it needs to update that corrupted file. Every time I try it says
"failed to read a required file. Please close all applications and disable your antivirus," I tried closing everything and disabling the antivirus, but nothing worked.
Should I just uninstall the game and the reinstall the game from the disk?

If you have the disk yeah, do that.

Trying to uninstall via ccleaner as there is no uninstall file for Diablo 3. It did nothing, game is 7.7gigs sitting on my hdd. can't do anything with it.

If you get this error code: BLZPTS00007

Make sure you're Internet Explorer isn't set to offline mode.
Set to online mode, then restart pc and try again.

Solved the issue for me.
