DICE laments: "Maybe we shouldn't do a beta"

Battlefield 3 developer shares frustration with negative beta feedback

Nothing wrong with mass testing were public helps, but some "testers" shouldn't be testing. Rifts public and closed beta really helped for a smooth launch I would say.

Just those who can't separate beta build from release as well as the real reason thereof, they are the problem...

B...E...T...A... not D...E...M...O people must learn the difference.

I was playing this with 2 friends of mine last week, they didn't stop moaning the whole time.
I got sick of it and told them to swap pc's with me so i could remove the variable of them from there argument, ( the 3 pc's 1 is below minimum specs 1 is on minimum and one is recommended). I played on all 3 and nothing really made me wanna rage,
The moaning didn't stop. The only thing that is a MUST is a 1 meg line or faster.
Sadly
Haters gonna hate, moaners gonna moan.

Still can't wait for this game.

Some people are a little thick to know the difference.. I mean.. Can't they read..? That little box that's ALWAYS THERE that reads... "BETA" Just because u download it from the demo section on the xbox does not make it a demo....

I think a BETA is a good idea. It helps the developers to identify a lot of problems and fix them. So when the final product comes out
it will be more stable. So people must stop complaining. Give full support for the developers. We all want a game free of bugs but will never be possible. Not matter what software or game you look at. There will always be bugs.

If everyone did read the article regarding the BETA they would have know that the BETA had two purposes.
1 - Reports any issues to be fixed.
2 - Test the back end for on-line.

Battlefield 3 will be a great game when it comes out.

Maybe DICE needs a BETA entrance test/exam for people that cannot distinguish the difference.

agreed, those with valued input who look past the fact that it is a beta, those of us who were playing knew the real reason was for testing, after a few days of testing i could already see DICE making subtle adjustments to the game here and there by Saturday caspian border was running so nicely in iGAME and such

+1, I also wasn't sinking into the abyss in Metro. Rest assured, those that flamed the game will be first in line on release day.

Definitely I recall connecting then getting rubber banded all over the map. Also random DC's and sound crashes. By Sunday afternoon I could play almost lag free!

Another view point should be the developer(publishers mostly) should not use a beta as a marketing gimmick and then expect people not to moan.

I for one am glad they did release the beta. Had a lot of fun despite the glitches and I'm more excited for release now.

Yeh but a lot of people are being dick about it. I agree on the closed beta thing, but i still think it is going to be a great game and many people will still buy it.

Agreed. Even with a closed beta, you're still going to get complaints, but it should at least filter out most of the rubbish complaints.

I also think that DICE should have made the Beta closed but then again I had a week and a half of excellent fun testing out Operation Metro and Caspian Border.

The main reason why DICE made this Beta open was actually not to test the game itself (Since the code was already outdated) but to test the back-end of the game i.e. how Battlelog copes with traffic and how the servers handle the game. This was a bold move but despite the negative feedback they got I think it was necessary as many problems were with the servers and not the game. For example the 1st few hours after Caspian was released again over the last weekend of the Beta it was nearly unplayable due to server lag.

Can't wait for the 28th and I hope to see you all on BF3

Yeh, so they have to weigh up the benefit of receiving good feedback and hearing a whole bunch of people complain about it and possibly lose sales,

A game should not be judged on the beta but rather on the final product, some don't get this and creates bad publicity.
I do believe a open beta has more benefits than just a closed beta.
