The Good:
Regular content updates to the games. You always have access to more content, more levels, extra progression options, etc. if you can shovel out the money for it.

The Bad:
Regular content updates to the games. Everyone, except you buy the new DLC and play the new maps online and you're left out. They have better weapons, more awesome skills, etc.

The Ugly:
Back in the day, yes I'm oldish, games had patches and games had lots of FREE STUFF. Maps could be downloaded and added to your game free of charge, not charged R75 - R150 for a map.

Most games that have DLC end the game on a ambiguous note, leaving the story open or unfinished. This so they can sell you the 3+ DLC packs planned for the game. This is something I view as content that should've been included in the game, instead of charging me an additional fee for an incomplete game. Sequels I don't mind. DLC I probably won't support, ever.

Now go ahead and flame me for living in the past.

I agree 100 % if done properly it's a great way to prolong a games play time but overall I feel that it's only a way for the developers to milk more money out of you :/

I hate DLC. Now they want you to spend extra money on a few maps or useless things. I find it a waste and most people don't buy it so the servers with the DLC content will be empty.

I didnt know you can pirate DLC? We tried it with Crysis 2 Map packs but it doesn't work.

The DLC itself is awesome, but the fact that you have to pay for it ON TOP of paying for the game itself is just a complete money-making scheme...

I loooooove DLC...

but I'm too poor to afford the atm. next year when I'm working I'm gona have some serious TLC for more DLC.

IMO, DLC packs are like Expansion packs.

Back in the day you'd buy a game and finish it. Later on they'd bring out an Expansion Pack for the game. You went out and bought it.

What makes this so different now?

If the DLC is good, why not buy it?

FLAME-ON! :-D

haha, wow dude. Don't think people on MG are that violent! :-D Like your comments. I think the DLC for say Fallout New Vegas was awesome. I mean the game was MASSIVE to begin with. Then you get more? GREAT!

Also, I'm not a Call of Duty/Online FPS kinda guy but I understand the reasoning behind DLC. Wana buy the game, play it, but not pay a monthly sub? Great. You can do that. But they need to have some incentive to keep the game going and thats through DLC. I have a much bigger problem with World of Warcrafts monthly sub rubbish. I'd much rather they had a DLC kind of thing. But I spose it takes more time/money to keep the servers running.

Anyhoo. I like DLC.

The past 2 years I sold my cod copied around dlc time. I hate paying for them.
But if thus was for a game like assassins creed, I wouldnt mind paying

Depends on the DLC and the price. I don't buy visual items or crap like that, but DLC that adds something substantial, like extra missions might be worth considering if the price is right.

Same here bud. if theres packs of themes or avatar crap. i never buy it. but if it's "real game content" then yeah. Its sucks that now to be a real gamer you need to have a credit card on stand by, pity.

I don't mind DLC for a game I enjoyed. I'm happy to support it as much as I can (within reason).

Games I didn't enjoy quite as much, I tend not to bother.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's The Missing Link, I bought in a heartbeat. All the DLC for Dragon Age 2? I haven't even bothered; not because I think the DLC is bad, just because the game itself wasn't something that really gripped me. But, next time I feel like playing it, I'll probably get all the DLC (and hopefully, by then, all the DLC would also be released).

I just felt a little bit pissed off at Dirt 3's suspiciously low track count - only to have a few more available as DLC two weeks down the line. You telling me they couldn't put those in the original game?

Other than that, DLC is your choice to make at the end of the day, but it does seem to be trend that is getting out of hand slowly but surely. I just vote with my wallet.

DLC is fine as long as its value for money not $15 for 3 maps, Steam have some nice DLC like $4 and such which you wouldn't even notice when you spend it.

P.S. I still prefer the good old days of Completed games and Expansions

Depends on the DLC.

IMO, DLC that is released within one month or at the same time as the game, should have been included in the freakin game especially things like guns, vehicles and whatever crap. I didn't pay full price for a game just to have "a limited experience" because I didn't buy the DLC with it. Dragon Age 2, Kane & Lynch 2 and Just Cause 2 immediately comes to mind. Mass Effect 2 also had some DLC released with the game, but at least they were free (Zaheed and a couple of others... can't remember now).

On the other hand, if the DLC brings new characters into the game with a whole background story and everything or if the DLC expands the story, then I'm all for it. Like with Mass Effect 2 for instance. ME2 was released quite a while ago, but while we're waiting for ME3, they've kept us busy with new content, a new character and some more pieces of the story, basically increasing the game's re-playability. And if you look at the "Lair of the Shadow Broker" DLC for instance... that was a lot of new content and I certainly don't expect them to release that for free.

Voted: Why should I pay for stuff that used to be included in games for free?

It's not fair to people who cant afford to buy the games in the first place, when they finally get the cash to buy the game then they now have to find a way to buy the DLC. its a vicious circle and developers want to know why their games are being pirated. I mean if a game costs R400 and they make R400 worth of DLC you spending R800 on a game.

In the old days the games were longer and had more content for cheaper than this, so in my opinion, as nice as it is getting the extra's, it should be included when you buy the game.

Understandably everybody has to work but when they selling 5mil copies on day one, are they not ripping us off..

I know how you feel and I understand that. However, gaming isn't a cheap hobby to begin with. If you can't afford it then it's time to find another hobby.

DLC rarely costs more than $9 and is often released in three-month intervals. If you enjoy a game and WANT the DLC (DLC being pretty much optional) R75 every couple of months is hardly earth-shattering.

Otherwise just wait for the inevitable Game of the Year edition which contains all the DLC.

You always have a choice; no-one's put a gun to your head and said, "BUY THIS DLC OR ELSE!"
