Uhg. Nobody can argue with console kiddies who think the innerwebs comes from a majik bawkz
Sarcasm on/
Oh yeah I completely forgot, if you play on a console you have to be a "
BroGamer" since we all know that to be a
"true"[read hardcore] gamer you
HAVE to play on PC like all the other l33t kids.
/Sarcasm off.
Come back then you learn to debate.
Heres the thing maybe some of you are very wealthy , but im not and I have visited the 2nd hand bin quite a few time ,times are tough enough to have to spend between 3 to 5 hundred rands a time on a game and yes there are games that we cant afford at the time because it doesnt fall into the budget ,and I know many gamers console and PC ,casual and hardcore have felt this .
And the end of it is if the purchase of a 2nd hand game +online pass is relative to a new game many gamers wont be able to afford it at that time and leading the game it self to be forgotten ,making no extra cash for developers.
Rustpuppet wrote a really intesting Opinion piece back in August entitled
Gaming At All Cost I think it ties in very well to what your saying.
Those, like myself, who game on all 3 platforms are not necessarily well off or more so that someone who owns just a pc or just an xbox or just a ps3. My deal with my wife is 1 game a month, if there is anything out i want, regardless of new or pre-owned. Sometimes if i get a good deal on a pre-owned title ill get 2 games. If however the month was particularly hard, we all have those unforeseen expenses popping up, and a title I want is released I'll wait for it. Bioshock 2 & Dakrsiders Wrath of War where both released early this year but I waited 3 months till i spotted them in a pre-owned bin before getting them. Why? Coz I simply didn't have the finances to buy a game, let alone 2 games on release at that time. What i am trying to say is that you dont have to buy the game new, you dont have to buy it on release day.
As for this online pass, it is something extra that you don't have to have. You dont HAVE to have access to online modes in all your games and the ones you do you simply save up for an then buy new rather tan pre-owned. There are more than enough titles that can keep you occupied for a long time without the online functionality. EA aren't stopping you from shopping in the bargain bin and they aren't painting the trade of pre-played games as some sort of seedy back alley dealing, they are simply offering you a choice, all they are asking is they should you choose to buy a title pre-owned rather than new and you want online functionality that you pay them, on who's servers you play & who made the game, their due. Again it is the want/need of the consumer that gives this functionality its value.
Azimuth on the article linked above:
I totally agree with everything in this article. Seriously, if R400-R700 is too much for you, find a cheaper hobby. It's that simple.
This form of online access benefits the wealthy and not the common man...and if your not a common man you wont agree with this statement..to you it would phase you none cause you could pay the diffrence heck why buy 2nd hand you probably have the original already.
Making it about wealth vs poverty is what i would call a "moochers" way of arguing. "Why should they (the rich) be able to own <inset expensive item of choice> while We(the poor) have to make due with without it simply because we dont have as much money as them." does it not sound similar to the "Why should they have all the jobs, while we go hungry, just because we didn't <insert excuse here>" argument that is heard oh so often in our society, specifically in this country?
I know I have never bought every game I wanted
No body has, not at release anyways.
