My favorite cricket series ever was International Cricket Captain, which allows you to select your team, batting order, bowling line up, line and length, batting aggression, field placements etc. Also it allows you to skip through the overs fairly quickly. The best aprt is buying players at the end of the season, you can really put awesome county teams together with the likes of Mathew Hayden opeing alongside Jaque Kallis!
It is serious cricket dork territory though.
i think one of the reasons why cricket games do not work is that you control all the batsmen and all the bowlers. If they made it like the Be a Pro in Fifa, where you only control one player, it would put a lot more pressure on, and performance would mean much more. That this hasn't been done is probably only because cricket is too low priority for experimentation. The market is small as it is, so they play safe.
